Indeed I did but I made sure to spread the love around. Picture, Director, Editing, Sound awards for Drive. Ensemble, Art Direction, Costume Design and Score for Tinker. Cinematography and Visuals for The Tree of Life. Can't get mad at that. I went- Picture and the Sound categories for Drive Director, Supporting Actor, Cinematography and Editing for The Tree of Life Ensemble, Adapted Screenplay, Art Direction and Score for TTSS.

Some thoughts on We Need to Talk About Kevin:
MVP is Jasper Newell. Mostly because his character (young Kevin) is the focus of the best written parts of the movie.
That's because the rest of the script... well, not to put too fine a point on it, but it's bad. I liked the early parts of the movie okay, but by revealing what Kevin did at such an early point means that the moment teenaged Kevin enters the picture, everything is linked to that. Pair that with the fact that Kevin isn't a person so much as a Batman villain (good lord, that scene in the restaurant was insufferable), and we've got Tilda Swinton having to deal with a cliche. Whereas with the younger Kevin, we're seeing her losing her grip dealing with a far less "been there, seen that" kind of monster.
Another way to put is that the early movie is about Eva; how she sees her son, how she wishes for a different life. The later movie is about Kevin; how he manipulates, how he performs his cheap tricks to ruin Eva's life.
I do like what Lynne Ramsay did as a director, especially in the early parts before Kevin becomes a more dominant character. The use of red and white isn't exactly original, but it's effective enough. Her ear for music to create dissonance between the audible and visual is very good, and her editing does a good job of getting into Eva's head. Unfortunately, this all suffers later simply because the tension cannot be sustained without mystery.
I don't dislike the film. It's okay. I feel that there is a much better movie in here and it needs a major rewrite to make it come out. But all in all, it's a decent (if ugly) movie. I don't think I'll vote for it in any categories.

It's real easy to hate and obviously im not really accustomed to your taste, 'twas all Hell, I'm not accustomed to my taste. I was pretty sure I'd like this one, even though I didn't care for 12 Years a Slave. The episodic nature of that one killed it, and I didn't hear anything about this having a similar structure. I've had a couple of hours to contemplate it now, and... well, it's still churning. Which is a good sign of me being head over heels for a movie. I adored the way it portrayed shame itself. It's more than a title; it's a burning meaning to everything that Brandon populates his life with. It is why his sister is the best thing in his life and the worst: she is his own shame and self-loathing looking at him in the face, but also his possible escape. But Sissy is no simple plot device. She's a person who's just as broken as Brandon, in her different ways. And she doesn't conform to what the plot (i.e. Brandon's character arc) needs of her. They both love each other and hate each other and don't care about each other so much that it hurts. It's really one of the best depictions of a sibling relationship I think I've ever seen. (Not that I threaten my sister with a bat when she's in the shower and then stand talking to her for two minutes, I'm not that weird. )

Warrior was such a cheesy, stupid movie. But I'm smiling at it. It's the kind of thing that you watch with some people that don't watch many movies so you can all enjoy yourselves and not have anything to say about it afterwards outside of "that was fun."
I'm a horrible watch buddy, I insist on analyzing characters and narrative decisions and won't let it rest. I'm an insufferable bore. But with something like Warrior that doesn't go for subtlety or deep character motivations and which has the most predictable plot anyone could ever make, I have nothing to add. It was fun, for what it was.

Y'all best be voting for Tinker Tailor in adapted screenplay.
Also, Melancholia for cinematography and the A Separation duo in supporting.
I could live with any other disastrous choices, if those four can happen. Honestly though, Tinker Tailor in adapted is a must.

Bayat is possible, but Mulligan came in and stole her thunder. Sorry, Johnny.

As far as cinematography go, I assume Lubezki will take it but I voted for Drive. Supporting actress could go either way. I think I voted for Chastain ( Take Shelter) but this lineup was so boring.

Wow, I did not even see this thread or the nominations one. Don't know how I missed them, but glad I narrowly caught the window for submitting my votes here. Will say that I'm supremely bummed that I seem to be the only massive fan of Beginners (it is my favorite film after all), but even just for the acting outside Plummer... I mean he's not even the best or second best of the main three! But I digress - I'm so glad it got in for Screenplay at least as if it were to get in any category, it absolutely deserves it in that one. Mulligan's other performance should have gotten in as well as that's close to an all-time fave for me too (but I'll happily vote for her other one instead). Not a bad batch altogether, but my one real gripe is that War Horse should be so far away from all of this I'm even mad it got in for sound.
Let's hope we rectify it with the winners!
