Seconding Stephen's disappointment at the lack of McTeer, but all in all these are some pretty stellar nominees. Hats off to Pendragon once again.

I'm soooooo happy for Rickman and Stoll, beyond baffled about Drive missing out of its best category (Original Score - it's like if Michael Moore failed to get a nomination for Fattest Director). And Streep missing out on one of her very best performances - I'm not too surprised, but it still hurts :,( Boo at Moaadi not getting a nom. He was way better than everyone except Dujardin (haven't seen Tyrannosaur, though). Too much Shame love. It'd only deserve "Best Floppy Dong in a Motion Picture." Mulligan was incredibly unremarkable. Was she even in that movie? And yet, nothing for Weekend

I wonder how close McTeer was. I know me and Stephen had her at #1. Still surprised she was left out but I guess I underestimated Chastain (especially for The Help, god that shit's grating) and Woodley. Chastain definitely didn't deserve a nod for Tree of Life (one of the movie's greatest faults is how much it underutilizes her; not her fault but still, for such an influential aspect of the narrative she feels barely in it) but I knew she'd get in because...Malick and shit.

Probably gonna make sure I vote for the winners just to do my part in preventing Midnight in Paris from winning anything (thankfully it doesn't seem too popular here so it shouldn't be that hard).
Anyway, definitely some strange ass acting lineups here, but at least the Cinematography and Director/Picture lineups are damn near perfect. Will try to catch up on some stuff before the vote, but I can't make any guarantees.

Can I just say how very pleased I am by the amount of love for The Artist? Even though Bejo missed, I'm delighted that an under-discussed Best Picture like that still manages to do well in a year with a lot of cinephile favorites. It didn't make my ballot, but this was a pretty incredible year. 25(!) movies score 8/10 or higher from me, compared to 2017 in which I have 10 (and Logan just barely squeaks in with that final 8/10 too). Looking at the year, I find it a shame that so much couldn't make it in anywhere. The Kid with a Bike (Thomas Doret and Cecile de France got snubbed!) Girl Walk: All Day (CHOREOGRAPHY!), I Wish, Arthur Christmas, Carnage... and that's just my BP ballot. There's also Winnie the Pooh, Coriolanus, Project Nim, The Eagle, The Future, Footnote... Pretty much everything is fantastic.

I seem to be the only one in the world bummed that Von Sydow missed. I am too.

First: How y'all snub goose, shame on you. THAT MAKES 2 AGREGIOUS SNUBS Second: How does Martinez miss for Drive, shame on you. I don't actually nominate any of those scores. Gross lineup. Third: Great BP lineup, good on us Fourth: You monsters need to watch Terence Davies' masterpiece. Fifth: Love that Mulligan, Woodley made it. Sixth: Chastain triple, meh on The Help performance but that doesn't seem likely to ever happen again, AMARA history. Seventh: that best actress lineup is otherworldly, even if Weisz and Wasikowska deserve to be there Eighth: Thanks Pendragon as always!!!!!!!

Dang, totally forgot these until now! So anyway, reactions...
Best Original Song: A song I give a crap about is nominated, I care about the category! "Star Spangled Man With A Plan" for the win. I like that Take Shelter song too.
Best Achievement in Composing an Original Score: The Artist or Tinker Tailor need to win this one. The others are fine too. Top line-up.
Best Achievement in Sound Editing: Solid line-up.
Best Achievement in Sound Mixing: Mostly solid line-up.
Best Achievement in Film Editing: I don't care for three of these choices, but I still have two solid choices to pick from, so all good I guess.
Best Achievement in Visual Effects: Honestly, if Rise doesn't win here, it is just a poor choice.
Best Achievement in Stunt, Fight or Dance Choreography: Great line-up. I think this has fast become my favourite AMARA category!
Best Achievement in Makeup and Hair-Styling: Solid stuff again.
Best Achievement in Costume Design: Great line-up, from which Anonymous must win.
Best Achievement in Production Design: Fantastic line-up. If you bumped the excellent Harry Potter, for Anonymous, which should be winning the category, it'd be perfect. Still, this is a all-time great year for the category and we almost reflected it to a tee in our nominees.
Best Achievement in Cinematography: Again, a wonderful line-up. Melancholia should breeze to the win, but obviously it won't.
Best Performance by an Ensemble Cast: Almost a very strong line-up, from which Tinker Tailor is in another league to the others. Drive though....this is the most unworthy nominee we've had in this category.
Best Achievement in Writing an Adapted Screenplay: Tinker Tailor must win this. It is a masterful adaptation.
Best Achievement in Writing an Original Screenplay: The Tree of Life , whatever. This is probably the worst AMARA nominee we've had.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role: Four top draw nominees and three very average ones. Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role: Plummer is crap, Stoll is monstrously overrated, and the same goes for Brooks. Pitt is passable, Rickman is decent. Nolte is very good and Hosseini is in a league of his own. Shocked McTeer missed!
Best Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role: Very good line-up. I'd bump Olsen and Davis for Gainsbourg and Bejo, but at least Glenn Close missed.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Lead Role: The exact line-up I would have predicted. Pitt, Clooney and Fassbender are lameducks, but the other four are phenomenal and I don't care who wins out of the four. Of course one of the other three blahwads will probably take it.
Best Achievement in Directing: Lose Malick and this is a very solid line-up. Glad von Trier is in there, and I hope he or Hazanavicius take it home, since Alfredson was robbed.
Best Motion Picture of the Year: Tree of Life has stunk up so many categories. Although, I'm so hyped Tinker Tailor made it, that I don't care. Honestly, my Top 3 films of 2011, (probably) my favourite film year, are up for Best Film!! All previous mistakes (except The Raid not winning choreography in 2011) are forgiven.
Overall I am happy with these nominees, Tree of Life and Shame stink them up a bit, but the good and great most definitely outweigh the bad. Great job as ever pendragon

Decent list of nominations overall. Some thoughts: -How did The Raid miss fight choreography? -Hugo missed cinematography. I'm not really surprised and I get it people don't like Robert Richardson' win over Lubezki but at least it should've been nominated, C'mon! - Love Chastain's 3 nominations - Glad Alan Rickman got in. - Bejo missed? I guess it's because of the category placement confusion - Surprised with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo love. - Midnight in Paris should've gotten in for Best Picture.

I'm so confused right now, I thought you guys hated the artist? I've never seen any hate for it, just never really any mention of it in general. Dujardin has always enjoyed love whenever mentioned (as evidenced by the high rating he has on my poll series), but the problem is that the film itself is hardly ever really discussed in terms of "favorite movies of the decade." It's just forgotten for some reason, primarily (I think) because it feels like it was made in a silent era so it doesn't really come to mind when thinking of modern movies.

No Haywire for choreography is pretty rough... how close was it? And how close was Woody Harrelson for Rampart? Those were really the only two nominations I gave a shit about.

Didn't know that it was done in 2012. I voted for it in 2011 but you didn't corrected me?

Well, knowing this board's (wrong) opinion on "War Horse" I'm happy to see it get any mentions. Although you're nuts for not voting for it in Cinematography.

And no "Hugo" and "We Need to Talk About Kevin" in Cinematography? Y'all suck. Oh shit.... no Hugo in cinematography is a big miss. People here need to put some respect on based Bobby R's name. Yeah, but not for that. I find Hugo such an ugly-looking film.

People here need to put some respect on based Bobby R's name. oh he'll be fine. Come 2012 and 2009 and 2004 and 2003 and 1991 and 1989 etc. Hugo is not among his best work.
