IMBD is unreliable, so no, he doesn't have anything else lined up, which is concerning, i genuinely think WSS may be his last film.

There's literally zero reason to think that West Side Story would be his last film. The man's not exactly at death's door; both his parents survived well into their nineties (his dad died just last year at 103), so there's a strong possibility he could pull an Eastwood and have another working decade or two ahead of him. The likelier reason why he doesn't have anything listed on IMDb at the moment is the pandemic, and he's having to do a lot of post-production work on West Side Story (it still remains to be seen what, if anything, he'll be doing in regards to Ansel Elgort, and whether reshoots will be in play). Spielberg's primary focus at the moment, aside from directing, is also trying to galvanize the movie theater industry to survive COVID, so that's obviously taking up a fair bit of his time as well.

I don’t know I guess it’s better than having a bunch of stuff on it like the usual style, but it feels a little too simple. Plus I see they’re already trying to hide Ansel Elgort’s involvement any way they can. Good luck with that. It might work now, but not when the actors and Spielberg keep getting asked about him during the promotion of it.
Maybe I’m being too pessimistic because it’s just I don’t have much faith in this. I expect that it will do well with techs of course, and the actresses playing Maria and Anita should get a lot of attention, but I’m not sure it’s going to live up to the original especially in this era. I also feel like awards are over Spielberg now. Not that he can’t surprise, and obviously like I said it’s going to get a bunch of below the line nominations, but I think it will be lower tier Best Picture nominee if nominated.

I think that the sheer audacity of remaking a bonafide classic will get him much more attention than the one he got for Bridge Of Spies or The Post (Lincoln was different but the Academy wasn't too interested in historical epics anyway). If the movie is good, anything can happen, though I find a Best Picture nearly impossible.
The Elgort issue is different, but we as a public and the press should stop blaming entire productions for the wrongdoings of an individual. We have learned that Elgort is an asshole, making him the center of attention is even worse. Ava DuVernay played it very smartly during the promotion of When They See Us by refusing to answer questions about Felicity Huffman.

why the double 'Lyrics by' and 'Music by' credits I guess one credit is for the movie itself and another is for the original stage play? Looks weird indeed since they're the same thing.

Again I’m pessimistic. It looked good, but it looked pretty much like the original, so I’m not sure that’s a good thing in terms of award chances.

This is predictable coming from me but I think it looks gorgeous. The energy, the sweeping camera, the colors, the juiciness of the image, the stylized lighting (I love Kaminski's eye unlike most here) - everything about this looks amazing to me. I've said this before but the 1961 version, even if it's a classic, has a very specific visual style with its dreamlike images and camera which doesn't really move that much and feels cumbersome when it does (because it was), so a new adaptation of the play is a perfectly fine thing to do because it can do its own stuff. I think this movie stand on its own. Books are adapted all the time so I don't know why a new adaptation of a stage play is such a weird thing to some. I guess it's because of the status of the 1961 film? I think 60 years is enough time for a new cinematic version of the same material to exist. I'm rooting hard for this because Spielberg dreamed of making a musical for a looong time and WSS is his favorite one. It's obviously a dream project for him so I'm especially excited to be swept up by it.

I don’t think the Elgort controversies will die down so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

That was just a small teaser, giving us almost nothing.
But I'm guessing I'm gonna love that cinematography...

No offense but this looks like a fancier version of Glee meets High School Musical. Hopefully , the upcoming trailer will show some improvement.

“The first gringo boy who smiles at you . . .” *cut to Ansel Elgort’s mouth looking like he just sucked on a lemon*
Best cutaway shot ever.

Oh hey, a trailer for one of our future OG/Remakes polls! I (predictably) think it looks gorgeous. Can't wait to see Spielberg unleash his prowess of cinematic blocking and movement during the musical numbers. And I just love the colors and the contrasts and that wonderful sizzle of film. Musicals look especially dull with a plastic digital sheen so to see these textures is really a pleasure for the eyes.

The lead actress has a great voice. And imo it looks better than all those soulless / dull Disney live action remakes that Disney keeps shoveling out to the masses year after year. I just wish Ansel Elgort wasn't in this. Can't stand that douche. But it is a Spielberg film so I'll probably give it a shot in theaters.

Gotta be honest - I usually (always?) see EVERY BP nominee ........but I am pretty sure I'm announcing my retirement at the ripe old age of 213.........when I see this trailer........and the one for Belfast .......like I have negative interest and slight internal pain.......unless it wins BP.......then I have to come out of retirement......
Fnck........
