I'll lash out against the Beatles and say when they played Rock and Roll well it wasn't a great time for it really 63/64 Then they became experimental and weird and didn't really play Rock and Roll for like 4 years and stopped playing live - what Rock band worth a damn stops playing live (not the Stones b*tches!) - then John let his freakin' girlfriend near the band and Paul turned into a wussy and George put down that fncking sitar and ..... nah just kidding I like them too

But..........but Dylan's an American!
Little known fact : anything ever worth saying is either from Shakespeare, the Bible or Dylan.
Oh it's true, it's DAMN true.

Great job Joaquim! I bet if people go through the top 50 they'll find a lot to check out and revisit. Very enjoyable list

Predictable result for #1, but I can't argue with it because they were my #1 Abbey Road has always been my favorite of theirs, with Rubber Soul maybe a close second. Thanks for doing this poll!

You were the only one who voted for the other two.

Well, this was pretty much exclusively a rock list aside from a few pop stars and Louis Armstrong sprinkled in. For some reason I was under the impression that we had a lot more hip hop fans here. I tried to get Coltrane and Miles Davis to slip on the list by having them both top five, but alas. Velvet Underground should also be higher.
The Beatles were no. 2 on my list behind Radiohead. I'm not gonna complain about either one's placement. It did my heart good to see The Kinks in the top ten. I believe I had them at #6 on mine behind the four aforementioned artists and the Rolling Stones.
Also glad to see Ramones, Elvis Costello, PJ Harvey, and Blur make the list. Picks of mine where I was on the fence as to whether they would make it. I liked seeing Sleater-Kinney slip in even if I didn't vote for them, although they'd probably make a full top 50 from me.
What decade are we planning on starting with for the album polls? The 60's and then going forward (I don't think too may people on here could do 50's lists) or 2000's and back?

For fun, re-arranging the Top 20 to make it based on ballot appearances with the actual result in ().
1. The Beatles (The Beatles) 2. Bob Dylan (Bob Dylan) X. David Bowie (Queen) 4. Queen (The Rolling Stones) X. Radiohead (Radiohead) 6. The Rolling Stones (David Bowie) 7. The Smiths (The Smiths) X. The Kinks (The Kinks) X. Pink Floyd (Pink Floyd) X. The Doors (The Replacements) 11. Ramones (The Who) 12. Nirvana (The Doors) 13. The Who (Ramones) XX. Elvis Costello (Frank Sinatra) XX. Led Zeppelin (Nirvana) XX. Bruce Springsteen (Elvis Costello) 17. The Replacements (Led Zeppelin) XX. Frank Sinatra (Talking Heads) XX. Talking Heads (Bruce Springsteen) XX. Elton John (Elton John)
With 4 ballot appearances, Arcade Fire, The White Stripes and Roy Orbison would've jumped into the Top 20.

If albums is indeed the next poll, it would be cool to see one for composers at some point since it was decided that they should be left out of this one.

IMO, this is a very crappy poll and I kind wish I voted but at the same time, not really. Led Zeppelin not being in the top 10 is the biggest crime especially being below Elvis Costello, Ramones, and The Replacements. I like them all, but they don't hold a candle to Zeppelin. I think this is a first music poll I've seen without Zep being in the top 10 artists. I think I'd rather see a poll in a board that's mostly full of music/rock fans like classic rock forums rather than movie awards since it's obvious the majority of them are movie lovers first. There's no doubt that Zeppelin would at least be in the top 10 there. I'm not saying ALL of them are, it just seems off IMO.

Hell yes @ Talking Heads. Glad those Led Zeppelin hacks didn't place any higher than that.
"When you take one of the greatest rock guitarists ever, one of the greatest drummers, one of the great electric bassists, and one of the greatest front men of all time.... you get Zeppelin."Amen! That's one of the reasons what makes Zeppelin an amazing band and top 10 at least. Any band with the best drummer (in the rock genre) should be top 10. Not to mention their versatility, the consistency of albums, and of course influence, especially in the hard rock genre.

This was a fun thing and the fact that few people voted kind of made it cooler, it's like sitting around with your friends talking about bands. Music is far less clear than movies because there's a canon of great movies based on the different components but everyone can coalesce more around writing, directing and acting. Rock which by definition is an anti-Art - i.e. you can be musically proficient but that proficiency is less important than in Jazz or classical or you can have a poor voice technically but a great Rock and Roll voice. You can never sell any records and be better than the band who did etc. Influence in Rock is a bit of a lie too - ie some bands influenced a lot of bands positively sure but they also influenced a lot of bands the other way too - who wanted to be nothing like them etc. Even in that way it's an anti-Art.....and besides.........these go to 11.

Immediate reactions as I read it. - Glad he made it, but Leonard Cohen is too low. He's my Bob Dylan. - (Somewhat) pleasantly surprised Oasis made it. - Prince is shockingly low. - Fair finish for the Chili Peppers - Delighted Madonna made it, and that it was comfortably too. - Honestly, it wouldn't have shocked me if Elvis had totally missed, so it's good to see him here. - A little high for Arctic Monkeys, but they are a top band, so I can live with it. - 35 - 31 is a hell of a set, with Nine Inch Nails being my favourite of that bunch. I've recently got back into them big time. - 30 - 26 is incredible. Queen Amy and I was always a Blur over Oasis man. ABBA almost in the Top 25 too. Happy Days! - My favourite band of the 2010s at number 25. I just wish they'd been Top 10. - Delighted PJ made it, and damn high too, especially since I forgot her. The shame of it all!!! - I just don't care much for Elton John. - Same goes for Brucie. - Led Zeppelin are about 12 spaces or more too low. - I like Nirvana a lot, but damn if they aren't overrated, so I am pleasantly surprised to find them in a deserving spot. I voted them 17th. - That whole Sinatra, big band thing just isn't something I care for. - The Ramones are pretty cool, though I wouldn't have predicted them to almost Top 10. This list is crazy unpredictable, and I love it. - I don't care what anyone says, you can't whack The Who. - Floyd should have been Top 5, but with the craziness of this list, I'll take Top 10. - I was never crazy for The Kinks...sorry. - Same for The Smiths. - Glad to see Bowie Top 10 it. What a crazy creative genius. - Love the Radiohead lads, my #6 hit the list at #5. Happy days. - At their peak, The Stones ruled, so they for sure deserve Top 10. - Queen are just fucking phenomenal. My own #3 at #3. All good!! - Yeah, Bob Dylan is way too hit and miss for me. So whatever. - The Beatles are a 100% impossible to discount, and truly deserving winner. They were my lucky #7. So yeah, I totally loved going through this bonkers list . Shame it's such a sausage fest, but that was always the likely outcome. Great job Joaquim Also, it'll never cease to amaze me when people come into these things and dismiss the results, when they couldn't even take a small amount of time to contribute to them.

Nice list, overall. You guys have a great taste.
EDIT: Why the f*** isn't Michael Jackson in this list?!

Also, it'll never cease to amaze me when people come into these things and dismiss the results, when they couldn't even take a small amount of time to contribute to them. For real. This is just for fun, you lames. And as far as I'm concerned, Led Zeppelin is way too high anyway. Wouldn't even make my Top 75 or so. Time spent complaining a band didn't place higher is time you could be spending branching out your pedestrian taste in music
