From today's NYT: “The White House has received the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s supplemental background investigation into Judge Kavanaugh, and it is being transmitted to the Senate,” Raj Shah, a White House spokesman, said in the statement, which was posted on Twitter. “This is the last addition to the most comprehensive review of a Supreme Court nominee in history, which includes extensive hearings, multiple committee interviews, over 1,200 questions for the record and over a half million pages of documents,” he added. “With this additional information, the White House is fully confident the Senate will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.”
waste of time and money they were going to confirm him anyway. This whole thing boils down to the fact that some people didn't get the big picture. This started out about being a drunk fool in high school and college, which he was but like I said not the point. This is about how he conducts himself and the fact that he is a liar. Why anyone would want to sign off on him after that is pretty scary. This man will decide on issues that affect all of us. Nobody seems to care until it affects them. We have been warned. Republican could have just said okay, who else you got but nope. There's a reason this guy is their guy and we will all find out shortly. I still have money on the fact that months after he'said confirmed a bombshell will drop. I feel like the GOP and this administration at this point are just collectively getting off on finding out how far they can push the envelope and how much they can get away with. They definitely could have iced Kavanaugh and went with someone else, but the fact that they're going to get away with confirming such a monstrously controversial figure is a monument to how much power they have and how much sway they have with the evangelical right, and they love it. Can't wait to vote in November.

A small point about that - there have only been 2 judges in 30 years rejected - one rejected (Bork) and one withdrawn (Harriet Miers) - 2 Republicans. There was no way they would ever have withdrawn Kavanaugh imo - they feel pushed around when it comes to the judges historically.
In some ways you could have said this was a bad move on the part of Democrats to challenge this but like you said not much longer to wait to November - although I'm not sure how it will play out honestly. It's very hard when you live in one part of America to actually get a feel for the whole overall (as opposed to say your local community or the internet or the wacko extremists on both sides or the people who won't vote)
Sometimes you can feel like there's 15 different Americas .........

Also you know nothing about Kavanaugh and you've only made an opinion based on these accusations which have really fallen flat.

damn can't even remember your own bogus sources lmfao Or you're making up bollocks. Typical socialists coming up with complete shite. He’s talking about you using the argument that your Canadian cousins aren’t fans of universal healthcare although something like 9 out of 10 Canadians are in support of universal healthcare.

That was brutal but that's the new rule I guess now too - if Trump is in year 8 and is still nominating judges I don't think the Democrats will forget it either - I would guarantee it if its a Democratic senate - but Garland was the payback for Bork really in Republican minds.

I think what infuriated me the most is the blatant disregard disguised as empathy. It would actually make me less angry if those people like Grassley would just come right out and say “we don’t care what you want, we’ll just cater to ourselves.” At least they would be transparent about it. Just stop pretending that what you do is for the benefit of this country and it’s people, when it’s people vehemently tell you “no,” and you keep pressing forward anyway, because the simple truth is you don’t care.

I've come across a few of these people at work, they just want you to agree with them for GP. So to them if they ask you if the sky is green and you disagree they have no need for you. This is what is going on with the Republicans right now they know Trump is crazy but he said sky was green. So they are celebrating right now cause they got someone on bench who will f with civil rights laws. Wait and see. I.don't think Brett will f with abortion but all bets are off on all other undecided issues.

There is a film I'd like to recommend to those who might be interested. It's by Rainer Werner Fassbinder made over 40 years ago and it's a visionary one too - "Mother Kusters Goes To Heaven" which symbolizes the level of cynicism and matter of fact madness on both sides. The Democratic side wallowing in its loss which they never could have won - Presidents rule, still - inadvertently rousing the opposition by their very depth of feeling, utterly inept at anything resembling politics or a victory in that arena..........then the Republican side which controls all three branches of government and seemingly, calculatedly desiring more, you could imagine them invoking a death curse on RBG right about now. I can't think of a comparable American movie to this scenario but thought I'd recommend one that was uncannily prescient (it has 2 different endings, it helps to see both of those if you can because they are a flipside which is good because you don't know how our story ends either).

They're not supposed to do what the people want. It's not mob rule and principle still matters. Oh and don't pretend it's the Republicans that are acting like complete cunts and self serving. They're both a bunch of twats but at least the Red team is on the side of some principle.

Kavanaugh is a political hack and will vote the party line on everything, including abortion, but Roberts and/or Gorusch will probably keep Roe/gay marriage from being overturned. Roberts because he's just chicken and Gorusch because he's super deferential to precedent, and has pretty much come out and said he doesn't want Roe v. Wade overturned. I would love it if there was a 5-4 decision upholding Roe with Gorusch being the 5th vote. The SoCons will have sold their souls in supporting Trump for nothing.

You do know there's nothing in the constitution that upholds Roe v Wade. Even Democrats say legally it's a bad decision.
