I thought of this because the Joan Crawford thread and at least partially because American audiences (at least) often misunderstand the word "camp" in Art as a positive, which it indeed can be.
Who is someone who makes you cringe lately that by trying to be so serious in some aspect of their Art or personal life you find unintentionally funny?

Seems to me like two of the three amigos are a bit like that - Inarritu and Cuaron.
Ethan Hawke for sure. Viola Davis as well.

Well I don't know if Crawford took herself too seriously actually - maybe she didn't take her own talent seriously enough.......maybe there weren't opportunities for her talent after a point?
In that thread on her I said my favorite performance of hers (in a way at least) is Straight-Jacket which is delirious camp but it is played seriously - really seriously - and while watching it you don't know what to make of it at all. I'm not sure who is the one taking themselves to seriously there, her or the audience. I posed a question in that thread (unanswered so far!) - who else could play it, would play it, would make that work in an way at all?
But the discussion of her has turned into basically Mildred Pierce, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and Mommie Dearest and that's it - there's a wide swath of work there that's not being ignored exactly, but is not understood in context when it comes to her.

Iñárritu for sure, and him and DiCaprio together, taking that crap film too seriously was insufferable.
Seeing as Lady Gaga is an actress now, her too.
I think at a certain point in time Bale and Crowe did, but I think they're thankfully past that now.
I'd throw it out their that Robert Downey Jr. takes himself to seriously too, or maybe its just his arrogance, I don't know.

I think taking oneself too seriously only bothers me if one's work isn't on par with their attitude. So, yeah, I don't mind DiCaprio, Viola Davis, Ethan Hawke or Iñarritu being over-serious. But it does bother me seeing Xavier Dolan and hit-or-miss Nicolas Cage acting like this.
Also, Steve Carell's "serious dramatic actor" act is soooo boring.

Christian Bale, full-stop. This. I love Bale, he is one of my favorite actors out there but he takes himself too seriously and this has increased as his career progressed. I wish he would do lighter stuff now and then or take a more subtle route.

Bradley Cooper of course I miss him as a stupid comic actor... Haven't seen any of the Hangover movies or comedies that made him a star, but he's such a mediocre dramatic actor.

a younger Natalie Portman (she seems cooler nowadays , though) What period are you referring to ? I've been watching a few of her late 90s-early 00s movies and although very hit and miss, I've found her more charming than what she does lately, she was almost unrecognizable to me in Beautiful Girls and Garden State, I think those are among her best performances ( alongside Jackie, her only true great performance ) and put it next to the cool girl she tries to convey in Your Highness or No Strings Attached and she is so awkard.

In every interview I've seen her in, she struggles to give an answer, maybe she's a bit shy in that respect, dunno
