I absolutely agree with her. The movie was a white-focused disaster, that was all about making whites feel good about being good liberals. If it had focused on the maids, it may have been a good movie.... but I doubt it. That whole scene with the pie was disgusting on a far different level than what the filmmakers were going for.

Was the book different from the movie? More focused on the maids?

I simply believe that the focus in the movie felt wrong; I don't care if it was accurate to its source material.

I'm sure she also regrets losing to Meryl Streep.

Yeah , I can't disagree with you . When I originally watched the movie, I absolutely loved it. Then, a few years later, my opinion changed . It was too “White Savior” for me. I feel the same way about THE BLIND SIDE . I know both were based on a true story/events but I don't know , I just find both of these movies kind of patrononizing . That being said , I still find them pretty entertaining overall .

If I told her she should regret Doubt because that was an offensive portrayal of Mrs. Miller in effect supporting child abuse (playing devils advocate here) you would rightly give me the flipside of that scene and context.
But I could say just as easily "I know mothers in a similar position whose voice was not heard in that scene.........."
Actors play parts, and hope for the best.

I can understand what she's saying about the film itself, but I don't think it's particularly smart or kind (but it's important, I guess?) to say this publically about your most successful movie which torpedoed you into proper stardom and gave you opportunities that you didn't have before. I'm overall not a fan of when actors do that with projects that were their biggest successes.

While perspective can change, I can't help but question why she didn't say these things when the film came out. I have to imagine the biggest reason is because she was benefiting from the film's success. And it's not like she didn't know what she was getting in to. I'm not going to pretend like I know what it's like to be in her shoes, but I personally felt like it gave a voice to the black characters. In my opinion, it was just as much their movie as it was Skeeter's. I'm curious if she feels similarly about To Kill A Mockingbird. That's told even more so from a "white perspective."

Blah blah blah - if it's nonsensical then argue against it, if you can't - which apparently you can't because you haven't - then it must not be.

She's selling her own work short. I remember Aibileen's point of view the most because of her performance.

I can actually see where she's coming from,I just think it was a little classless to say all this publicly. That film is the primary reason she has such a stellar career right now.

C'mon, it's all-right to say that. It's not like she was on 2001 and then dissed the picture. I think she has a point, one that has actually been brought up on many occasions when The Help is discussed.
