cherry68 asked if Mozart could be eligible and it got me thinking about this. I'm really in the middle on this one so I thought a general consensus would be a good idea. ray also brought up John Williams and Ennio Morricone. Personally, I'd be more likely to accept Mozart than film composers like Williams and Morricone but, again, we'll leave it up to a consensus.
So should composers/film composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Williams and Morricone be eligible for inclusion in the poll?

Personally, I think it would be better to have separate lists: one for popular music and at least one other that could include both film composers and classical.

I think separate lists would be better. I remember some years ago a world survey elected Robbie Williams as Best musician of the Millennium, with people like Mozart and Beethoven far from the top five. 🙄

In general no, it just isn't really comparable.
It could maybe be a case by case basis, though. Morricone being on the list might make sense since he's been cited as an influence by a lot of rock and hip-hop musicians (particularly the guitar playing in his spaghetti western scores).
I thought about including John Cage on mine since he doesn't seem exactly "classical". But ultimately he's just a very modern composer, so I decided he didn't really fit. That may be a similar situation to Morricone.
Ultimately it is your poll so it is up to you.

Did we ever come to a conclusion on this? Even though not very many people voted, it seems like most people say no, but the actual poll still says it's open to all music...
