Wasn't sure this would fit here but people do tend to politicize him.......what sayeth ye? (I did a search and can't find anything almost on him here - is that possible (!?!) or do I not know how to use the search function? )

ContraPoints did a pretty excellent video about him that says everything better than I could:

That was pretty great. Peterson's very interesting in that way too - to approach this great intellect with some humor because sometimes he seems to me to be lacking humor entirely but then he himself will make a very weird (and often very funny too) out of left field joke linking identity politics, post-modern theory and the death of God (or something) and you're like wait "can I laugh at that?"

He heavily misrepresented bill c-16 here in Canada (which started his fame) and his arguments that God exists are pretty pathetic. I heard that his self help stuff is really good though and I know people that have been helped by it, so I have no problem with that.

I read 12 Rules for Life about a month ago. He's not perfect but he presents some very lofty and ambitious ideas in a readable format. I think he's a positive contributer to public dialogue.

Oh honey, I know several actors who have mentioned the 12 Rules book and how good it is & how it has helped them become more disciplined and clearer.
I haven't read anything by him but I think he's cute!

completely off of it
i can appreciate some parts of his ideology conceptually (ie his "devil's advocate but not actually saying that's what it is" routine) but the actual content is super barren
his self help stuff is mostly good for young sad dudes, no idea what anyone else would get out of it though i guess there's nothing wrong with a centralized target audience, but it's all like... extremely basic stuff. hygiene can be good for your mental health. get into some hobbies. do fulfilling things. this is like stuff you can learn from the first day of therapy - better yet, the brochures at the office on your first day of therapy.
his actual politics are pretty meme and i have little patience for climate change deniers in the current era. while i do find his comments on trans pronouns to be inappropriate, i believe there is a bit of overreaction to his overreaction there - though i can't fault people for assuming the worst of him from the get-go and assuming he's actually super transphobic. also him comparing trans activists to 1960s maoists and inventing scary buzzwords for political status quos that he manufactures in his head is definitely some delirious boomer shit just with a few extra syllables so i guess that makes it okay for some people.
the contrapoints video is a pretty good resource, but i think robinson's currentaffairs analysis of him is a bit more essential. not someone to avoid, however someone whose individual viewpoints outside of an extremely narrow area should not be taken seriously.

I'd also recommend his Munk debate which might be an interesting place to start with those who don't know him and his recent sit down with Camille Paglia as well - quite an interesting discussion although that can be difficult to watch because she's crazy manic (not trying to be mean, but she just is). Film Socialism's recommendations as "resources" are good too but neither of course includes him speaking himself or defending himself - so I included one above of him speaking in a debate form and one without his critics. Though of course his speaking is itself his blessing and his curse

He is married but you know MMS when that sort of academic meets a bona fide Hollywood legend, the results are often total fireworks.
