Welcome to the Movie Awards Redux Past Awards for 2012.
The following categories will have up to 7 nominees:
Best Picture Best Director Best Actor Best Actress Best Supporting Actor Best Supporting Actress Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay
The following categories will have up to 5 nominees:
Best Ensemble Cast Best Cinematography Best Production Design Best Costume Design Best Makeup and Hair-styling Best Stunt, Fight and Dance Choreography Best Visual Effects Best Editing Best Sound Mixing Best Sound Editing Best Original Score Best Original Song
NOTE: I decided to drop the Ensemble Cast category down to 5 options. The reason is that, more so than the other categories of 7, the points would drop off rapidly after the top 3 or 4 films. It didn't make much sense to nominate some of these stragglers, especially when they weren't getting any nods for individual performances.
Please submit ranked ballots to me. You can submit ballots with less than the category's number or without certain categories other than the top 9.
The top 8 categories will be scored thus:
1. 5 points 2. 4 points 3. 3 points 4. 2 points 5. 1 point 6. 1 point 7. 1 point
You can submit just 5 if you'd like and your top choice will still get the full points. Less than 5 and it will count for fewer points.
The eligibility period will be for the first theatrical release in the film's country (or one of its countries) of origin. Look on IMDb for that information.
The voting period will be until August 20th at 11:59pm PST. After the nominations are out, there will be a three week voting period and then the winners will be declared.
You can post any FYCs in this thread.

I was just thinking how it was funny that it got a boatload of nominations and afterwards was never mentioned again on that board or this one.

No. Cloud Atlas is a masterpiece and I'm gunning hard for it to get another boatload of nominations here. We're talking about Detachment.

I'm talking about The Perks of Being a Mary Sue. Are you sure? I thought it got in for both. Yeah, Perks blows chunks as well, but I really thought Detachment skated in because of that 5% rule or whatever it was that the ICCs had back in those days. Huh.

some fycs
Cloud Atlas - Doona Bae - techs
Zero Dark Thirty - Bigelow - Jason Clarke - screenplay - editing - sound
Beyond the Hills - i'd be thrilled if this gets nominated for anything. but especially for Cosmina Stratan and the adapted screenplay
Les Mis - don't sleep on the techs - ensemble would be nice too
I assume Moonrise Kingdom and The Master have enough love around here for me not to have to plug them.
one more thing, Marion Cotillard and Søren Malling deserve a lot of love for Rust and Bone and A Hijacking respectively. And it'd be great if Tommy Lee Jones gets some appreciation for Lincoln. Seems to be a very underrated performance in these parts.

I know there's no use really throwing out an FYC for the film (which I think I was the only one to love), but at least I hope we can get Adrien Brody in Actor again for Detachment. I know it caused a crazy hooplah last time with the ICCs, but I still defend his placement there. Say what you will about the film, but his performance is top-notch stuff.
