I remember there being a frenzy at the festival as to who (between Cotillard and Moore) would actually win the Best Actress prize. Of course Julianne Moore ultimately won (Jane Campion was the President of the Jury, and, well, I can't imagine that she didn't fight like hell for Moore's win), but I want to know - which performance do you personally prefer (and why!)?

Why would Campion fight for Moore? I don't remember her ever working with her.

Moore
I like Marion in her film, but as good as she is, I don't consider it near her best stuff. I always felt that it was overrated back on MA. Moore on the other hand was a hoot, and really went for it in a way that I love to see actors go for it.

Cotillard is miles better. Moore had her moments, but for the most part it was a screechy, overwrought turn from an actress who generally has no middle ground from being either extraordinarily compelling or (like in Maps to the Stars) screechy and overwrought. It cannot be overstated how much of a disappointment that film was to me.
Cotillard, meanwhile, gave a much more adept and believable showcase of a fraying woman trying to keep it all together.

With superb performances like Cotillard's or Binoche's in two films that were completely overlooked by the jury, it's so disappointing that they ended up choosing a decent performance (Moore) in an absolutely atrocious film.

I love Moore generally, but I really disliked Moore's performance; what she's doing here and in Magnolia are just badly calibrated.

Almost two years later, I’d say what I first thought while reading the poll. Juliette Binoche

Not Cotillard's biggest fan but she is a wonder in this.

Moore by far! So fearless, comic, tragic and slightly demented💖
Cotillard 's performance in 2 Days, 1 Night is a tad overrated. She was so much better in The Immigrant.
