Never too early to start working on your October watchlists! What's great about these made for TV thriller-horrors from the '70s era..... they're almost all on Youtube and typically about 70-75min long. What have you seen? Recommendations? Here's somebody's IMDb Top 50 list for help. And a wittily-titled column from the Film School Rejects site called 4:3 & Forgotten where they discuss some of these pics....

Bump I watched a few last October, Something Evil '72 which is pretty good, like a bucolic Poltergeist, and it's Spielberg directed - he adds some flavorful shots and ideas though it was a rushed production and it feels a bit too quick and curtailed. Sandy Dennis stars and impresses as an insecure, spooked stay-at-home mom. A Cold Night's Death '73 for fans of The Thing and snowy isolated mystery-horrors, two-hander with a great physically drained Robert Culp and Eli Wallach, great use of sound too. The Initiation of Sarah '78 one of the better Carrie-offsprings and quite well-done and layered though it falters at the end into hoke. Anyway, those are a few I like. Anyone else??

Bad Ronald (#2 on this list) has an insanely committed cult following - something about that ones premise really resonates with people - worth a watch.
Dying Room Only is the best film on this list I'd say - quite good acting, movie-movie level. When Ross Martin, a negligible actor maybe, plays against type or twists it in anyway he ends up in some great TV (two Twilight Zones, two of the best Night Gallery, a very fine early Columbo) - and of course even when he plays TO type he's a blast anyway like in Wild, Wild West.
Not horror per se but good+ suspense.....

Thanks for the list. I'm going to see When Michael Calls soon. This movie taught me that bee venom, apparently, smells like bananas. Good movie! Red herrings galore and lame ending aside, it's tensely done - a very early phone horror (what's earlier? Black Sabbath '63... I Saw What You Did '65...) - and with an underrated cast, Michael Douglas and a very good Ben Gazzara!

Almost forgot about this thread! I've watched A LOT of old TVMs since.... many aren't very good but they're like coffee to me, even a bad cup gives you a bop. Probably will post more recs closer to October, but a big one to start, one of my fav double features during my last horrorthon, and immediately made me totally reevaluate Karen Black - performance showcases, they're both Richard Matheson-writ and look at how we might shift identities and haunt ourselves. The Strange Possession of Mrs Oliver (1977) 78m Trilogy of Terror (1975) 72m

Not a horror but a good whodunit. Besides, it has Lynn Redgrave in it: Rehearsal for Murder link

I've seen a few.
Trilogy of Terror and Duel might be the most memorable, but the unlisted The Night Stalker was probably my favorite. It's sequel, The Night Strangler is also pretty good. Salem's Lot is another great one that needs a rewatch.
