Interesting cinematography lineup. A couple of films I really don't like overall, but I can't argue with them being here all the same. Still disappointed only two of my nominees made it.

Yassss Her! Deserves to win by ten miles. Not a bad line-up, though I guess people forgot Oz: The Great and Powerful came out in 2013 too eh? Also no Smaug is sad too. Don't get how Gravity got in here at all, though... It's mostly VFX is it not? VFX or not, it's still production design. Someone had to design the look of the various vessels. Just because it might not be physically there doesn't mean work didn't go into designing the aesthetic. This is why animated films never get their proper due: the mentality that a set has to be physically there in order to count. I hate Avatar's aesthetic, but I'm not gonna deny that they didn't put a lot of effort into making it look good, so while I consider its win one of the worst, it's not because there aren't many physical sets. This is true, but then that design gets put into the visual effects which is where I would nominate it personally. If the category didn't exist I'd probably nominate it in Production Design, though. I absolutely agree with the animated side of things, though, and it's something I've tried to change and reflect in my personal line-ups. I suppose it's just a personal preference, I just know how people feel about Gravity here and didn't want it to be a bandwagon thing. Don't mind me, though, I'm just a lowly detractor haha.

Oh shit, that's actually a really great Cinematography line-up (assuming that last one is Prisoners yes?). Definitely consider Prisoners to be some of Deakins' most haunting work, so it's my win, but wouldn't be upset if Only God Forgives or Her stole the crown too. But I think we all know what's winning.
Wish Place Beyond the Pines made a splash here, though.

My love for Her has died down significantly since seeing it back on my birthday early 2014, but it's still a beautiful movie with one of the best scores and production design of the decade.

I mainly say it as a joke, because I’ve already forgotten about Only God Forgives (which I’ll admit is an inspired nod), but I remember at least one flashing bit (unless that’s just Demon again).

Damn... Sad there's no Kings of Summer here, the one place I thought it might have a shot, but still really happy about Her, Prisoners, and especially Place Beyond the Pines. Pretty solid line-up all things considered, though still haven't seen Blue Jasmine.

Hell yes, this is an even better line-up. Short Term 12 (!!!!!!!), Wolf of Wall Street, Before Midnight, Spectacular Now... All great picks. Even though Captain Phillips and 12 Years a Slave didn't make my line-up, they're great picks too. Haven't seen Philomena.

American Hustle totally ruins what's otherwise a fantastic Ensemble line-up. But even then, if it means Renner gets a mention for his solid work in that film, I guess it's alright with me.
The fact Short Term 12 and Place Beyond the Pines are here though warms my heart. So glad there's some love for these two films.
