Looking to open around 90m. Nice! How much did The Winter Soldier and the first Guardians of the Galaxy make in previews? 10.2m and 11.2m respectively. Things have changed in the years since then though, especially with earlier screenings now.

Why was Ant-Man and the Wasp so frontloaded? Superhero overload after Black Panther, Infinity War, Deadpool 2 and Incredibles 2? Direct competition from I2 and Fallen Kingdom? Were lower stakes a hindrance for general audiences?

Were lower stakes a hindrance for general audiences? Probably a combination of coming after BP and IW, and also possibly a potential Marvel rush factor. Definitely seems like it fizzled out a bit. Hopefully it has good legs, though. Plus if you consider how the first opened with 55m, that 78m OW seems decent, it's just that the Saturday increase was really weak.

This can easily do $200 million.

It's just Marvel's brand power. Nobody outside comic nerds knew who Ant-Man was? $78M for a low tier superhero is in fact very good.
