I’m really curious to hear the full score now. The cut I saw sounded like there were some new pieces but mostly a temp soundtrack using Benjamin Button and Shape of Water pieces.

That trailer wasn't good. The feel seems way too modern and a lot of the American accents did not sound good. The music was also bad but as others have said that's probably not the actual movie score.

Is anyone really surprised that critical reaction to this is positive after that first trailer?

What in the name of Nancy Meyers are those posters? Looks like a mid-2000s romantic comedy starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale.

Is anyone really surprised that critical reaction to this is positive after that first trailer? not really. Looks pretty similar to Gillian Armstrong's take and you can't go wrong with this kind of material right now, especially from critical darling Gerwig. I always expected this to be a hit.

Is anyone really surprised that critical reaction to this is positive after that first trailer? I'm. However not that surprise, after all Streep is a critical darling, as in much minor way Saoirse Ronan and Laura Dern.-

Is anyone really surprised that critical reaction to this is positive after that first trailer? I’m glad we agree that we think it looks great.

very bland and generic track that sounds like it was written 20 years ago. Hopefully not indicative of the rest of the score.

Sounds like a lovely score. But I don't expect anything less than greatness from Desplat.

'Cause in an era of droning noises and electronic bullshit occupying their firm place in the world of film scores (even friggin' Star Wars has an electro-noise music option now 'thanks' to The Mandalorian) beautiful orchestral pieces as such are breaths of fresh air. More scores that sound like they're 20 years old please if it means they'll be proper film music! I liked the track quite a bit - it totally has a Desplat signature to it and captures that feeling of Americana and the spark that Little Women is all about.

It's so by-the-numbers for Desplat. There's nothing in that instrumental to set it apart from his most memorable music (Benjamin Button, Ghost Writer, Grand Budapest, even Shape of Water, all have a distinct sound and melody that stick out to you; this track doesn't and I can't imagine ever compulsively listening to it). If I heard that track and had no idea it was for Little Women I'd just as soon see it belonging to Casanova or The Queen. It sounds like Desplat going through the motions. It sounds like formulaic prestige film music, and it has nothing on Thomas Newman's score if that track is the best it has to offer.

I thought you meant something different but your praise of Thomas Newman's score proves me wrong. While I really enjoyed the track, I do somewhat agree that it doesn't sound like it's gonna be one of Desplat's very best scores. But hey, maybe there's more memorable stuff in the other tracks.

I’ve finally bumped this into my Best Picture predictions. It seems to be striking the chord with critics I was hoping it would and it’s overall just such a delightful experience. Gerwig could sneak into Director after all.

what I don't understand is why anyone doubted this in the first place. It was always going to be in the BP conversation.

I highly doubt Greta's version will ever top the 1994's one but I'm still interested in seeing it for the cast alone.
