Honestly, that was one of the most awkward things I've ever watched, but not because Haddish kept mangling names (because that's a requirement to be AMPAS president, really). It was because the Academy thought it was a good idea to invite an actress who was actually competing for a nomination (and had a major precursor to her name!) to present the nominees on international TV. If she got nominated, it would be an adorable moment captured forever . . . but if she didn't, you would see her disappointment and it would likely distract her for the rest of the proceedings. Why do that to her? I'm having horrible flashbacks to bringing out Sidney Poitier to not present Best Director to Steve McQueen. RIGHT? Why not give him the job of presenting Best Picture, if you're gonna trot out Sidney in the first place? It's not like McQueen was expected to win in the first place. Plus Will Smith makes more sense to present to Cuaron, considering its pedigree as a big effects-driven picture. The Academy makes some dumbass decisions, lemme tell ya. Like, why did Emma Stone present Best Director instead of Best Actor, as tradition dictates? I could understand it if she maybe had an issue with Gary Oldman, but if that's the case, just make her present to Frances McDormand.

How in the fuck did TIffany Haddish and Eileen Atkins get invited on the same day? I don't hate Haddish but she's done one movie. And apparently doesn't know anyone's fucking name. They REALLY should go back to just announcing the major categories (the big 5, supporting, plus animated feature and maybe foreign language film).

No way, the switch to announcing all 24 categories made nominations' morning 10x more fun. I don't even mind the mispronunciations, long live Dick Poop.

Yeah Polanski has no business being reinstated but I'm still shocked he wasn't ejected decades ago. Academy is right to stand by their decision but it's not like they have the moral highground here, or have ever really had it before.
