a lot of great names in that list. I wonder how much this will affect next year's Oscars.

As previous nominees, it's weird that Abigail Breslin and Quvenzhané Wallis are only now being invited to join, right?

Well. That was the most spirited "fuck you" the Academy's ever gotten. I agree with her, really. I don't know much about the case (should I watch Wanted and Desired?), but from what I know: I'm on a fence in that I believe that Polanski escaped justice in the first place (albeit I heard that "justice" tried to bite him in the ass), but continuing to demonize the man over forty years later is too much. And good for Seigner standing by her husband regardless. She has the right to throw this back into the Academy's face.

It's a great documentary - and not what people think it is, you see his guilt and you see why he ran and how his celebrity helped him and hurt him. Anyone who loves films, period, should see it........... People who think it advocates for him are rather projecting on to the film because its a lot more even keeled than it's come to be known as. Some of the footage in this film, is a flat out revelation.

Well , "good" for her for standing by her husband but it changes nothing to the fact that he should be in jail. He did something morally and legally reprehensible and should have been ostracized a long time ago. But I guess better late than never. Hollywood is hypocritical. They should have never honored that fugitive in the first place .

If he did the greatest directorial achievement of 2002, then he deserved to win the Oscar...period, bottom line, end of story, and there's literally ZERO valid argument otherwise. Anyone who thinks an artist's personal demons or crimes should get in the way of them being honored for their artistry is an IDIOT! Period. 💯

That's NOT a documentary, just disingenuous propaganda. I bet you're probably too scared to see WANTED & DESIRED cuz you can't handle the TRUTH. But, at the end of the day, Polanski will die a free man, with his Oscar in hand, never another day in jail, still making films till the end, while living a comfy rich life in YOUR COUNTRY. He's won EVERY battle your ilk has tried to wage on him...it's just too funny!!

Making Regina Hall a member is the very least they can do as a make up for her lack of a nomination for Scary Movie.

That makes her an amazing inductee. Imagine her ballot, where she has to remember actors' names. Or hell, imagine her being one of those "brutally honest" voters.

Now I'm imaging her trying to fill out her ballot with Andy Serkis over her shoulder saying names slowly, like a tutor helping a student with homework.

Honestly, that was one of the most awkward things I've ever watched, but not because Haddish kept mangling names (because that's a requirement to be AMPAS president, really). It was because the Academy thought it was a good idea to invite an actress who was actually competing for a nomination (and had a major precursor to her name!) to present the nominees on international TV. If she got nominated, it would be an adorable moment captured forever . . . but if she didn't, you would see her disappointment and it would likely distract her for the rest of the proceedings. Why do that to her?
