Teaser is here! More effective than I expected. I'm actually hoping this might be good. All the prosthetics look quite ridiculous. Especially Sienna Miller. Why not just hire Amy Ryan?

Wow. Best new show of 2019?
Naomi looks incredible, I got chills down my spine when she screamed in the elevator.

ibbi is going to yell at me but I still haven't watched Chernobyl and I watched episode 1 of this and I disliked it a great deal and let me blunt - fnck Russell Crowe. I know plenty of people disagree - we can still be friends it's ok - but for me.......unimpressed. In 2019 he's adrift in an acting abyss - 20 years without a great performance - 19 since he last did something worthy of his rep. He had a 10 year run - some of it in Australia, it was a lifetime ago.........here he's merely bellowing in a fat suit and it shows....I thought he was supposed to be "unrecognizable" - not hardly. The biggest let down by a film star on TV since........? These types of things never work out because you spend the whole time playing spot the imitation...... That's why my hopes aren't high for the Kidman/Theron movie either but this is actually more grotesque because it's on TV and it shows no understanding of TV as a creative enterprise. If Fox News was a brilliant idea then by the craven supportive toadies in this piece you'd never know it. You either believe it's a team supporting the vision or it's merely a team of Satan's Apprentices ........if you believe the latter well it's arguably an insult to conservatives but it's definitely an insult to drama

51% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ouch. This show is done awards-wise. Shame as I like Rusty, and he seems to be getting mostly strong reviews for his performance. But I don't think the show is in danger of winning any Emmys with this tepid reception. Even nominations may be tough to come by.

I guess that's a good way to assess him too - the arrogance used to be under his actorly control so it wasn't an issue in characterizations at least - this performance - at least in episode one - is amateurish and vainglorious imo.

It will easily get nominations come next awards season. www.metacritic.com/tv/the-loudest-voice

A BEAUTIFUL MIND came out in 2001 and that was an AMAZING performance.

That piece is called "damage control". Real time ratings are what these things mainly get judged on, not ancillary ratings. CBS almost certainly were spitting blood at Deadline for accurately reporting the premiere as a ratings flop, so they are spinning like crazy (" look, people watched it on their phone a week later ) and getting Deadline to soften the blow. I know how PR and media works. Spin, spin, spin.

At least with broadcast networks, ratings in real time are how shows are initially judged. Otherwise, they wouldn't bother reporting real time numbers . Streaming services have different metrics, but broadcasters still need to deliver a certain amount of viewers in real time to be considered a success. Broadcast network shows get cancelled because their real time ratings aren't strong enough, even if their ancillary ratings are solid.
