I lived in America for thirty years before moving to Canada, and yeah, Canada is better. Where’d you live though? I think there are certain cities/states where I’d prefer Canada over, and others where I’d prefer US.

I think there are certain cities/states where I’d prefer Canada over, and others where I’d prefer US. I've lived in Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Tennessee, and had extended stays in other states across the contiguous 48. And yes, I'm sure there are certain places in the States that are preferable to live than Canada, but if you're asking where I personally prefer living, Canada has more going for it. This is not to say it's perfect by any means, because it isn't.

This whole comparison reminds of a guy who gets asked "Ginger or Mary Ann" and he says........ "Mrs. Howell"....

I definitely think the US has more to offer than Canada in terms of activities, entertainment, diversity (geographic and racial), and opportunity, but the current political and social landscapes are making it quite untenable… at least for the foreseeable future.

Canada.Guns and healthcare being the two big reasons I could never live in the US. I definitely understand your leeriness of the gun culture here, but I wanted to point out that Canadians are equally as likely as Americans to be insured either privately or through their employers, as the national plan in Canada doesn’t cover prescription drugs, dental care, or eye care.

I've lived in both. I lived about 5 years in Canada, and about 25 in the United States.
I definitely prefer United States. Maybe it's where I lived in Canada, but the environment or environment(s) was no good for me. I don't care if Canada is more of a leftist country, or doesn't have gun violence...... those things don't matter to me if I only take into account how it affects me.
I just think America has more options. If you wanna decide just one day to change your life, there is more options you can pursue here and the cities in America feel more different. In Canada there are some differences between towns, but not as much.
If you're retirement age, it's probably better to live in Canada. If you're poor, Canada does give you more leeway to remain unemployed and collect some welfare (tho that leeway may not last forever)..... but again it depends on what personality you are. If you have ambition, or not. Personally, I'm somewhere in the middle.
I actually care about surviving and living at least decently. I know most people here just care about movies and liberal viewpoints.......... but I was really poor in Canada.... this is just me tho and my experiences. My parents lost their job, and was on welfare for about a year. That never happened with them in America, except post Hurricane Katrina since I was living in New Orleans in '05 and the few months after Katrina was the only time my parents were ever unemployed in America while they were unemployed for nearly half the time they were in Canada. When I lived away from my parents in Toronto, I couldn't find a job there for a year and a half and lived on a little welfare myself. Tho I was living with a girl, in her house, but I would be broke otherwise.

It's kind of a moot question. Canada is more civilized on the whole, by far, but parts of the US are nigh indistinguishable, like the Pacific Northwest and parts of Maine and Alaska. Whereas Canada doesn't really have equivalents for much of the US.

Canada is objectively better, but for professionals the US is unparalleled. If I'm to go through with my MBA plan I definitely would only apply to American business schools. If I live in America as a foreigner most of America's issues wouldn't bother me much as I'm not American except gun violence.
