At this stage JGL has been way more consistent but I think we've seen the upper reaches of what his talent has to offer where I think we've barely scratched the surface with Garfield. Silence is the best from either by a massive margin

Andrew Garfield is American, too. But yes, I prefer Gordon-Levitt.

I prefer JGL. He's been missing for years now, but I love what he did in Mysterious Skin, 50/50, 500 Days of Summer and Looper. He's very charismatic, charming and true leading man material. He hasn't challenged himself or chased auteurs, but in his most transformative part (which was Snowden), he did a good job.
That said, I think Garfield could surpass him very soon. He seems very committed to learn more about the craft, and more eager to accept more difficult, challenging roles. 2016 was an important turnaround in his career, and between working with Scorsese, being an Oscar nominated actor and trying stage work, he's really grown on me.

JGL thus far. Garfield has gotten better, but JGL has shown a better range of roles thus far.

Gordon-Levitt thank you very much.
While I really enjoyed his work in Hacksaw Ridge, and he was decent in Silence, they were the first times I found Garfield anything more than tolerable. I generally find him irritating as hell. On the other hand I quite like Gordon-Levitt, and have done since he was making me laugh in 3rd Rock from the Sun or getting ice-skating all wrong in Halloween 56 or whatever. I've even found him to be bloody fantastic on a few occasions.

JGL
No disrespect to Garfield cause I'm looking forward to Under the Silver Lake (looks really good) but I think JGL has a better filmography & roles thus far.

Gordon-Levitt, hands down.
Garfield has his moments and I'm yet to see a lot of his more acclaimed performances, but so far I think he's someone I want to like more than I actually do. Silence was good but inconsistent, and I'm not huge on his Hacksaw performance.

While Garfield has been more interesting to watch lately with Silence, 99 Homes and Hacksaw Ridge, JGL has Mysterious Skin which trumps those. I haven't found JGL or his career as fascinating since that, but I think he has a knack for both comedy and drama and has great charisma on screen.

Pretty close, but Garfield's best work is better so I voted for him.

Both have been disappointing for years now, but JGL has more talent overall. But he reaaaallly needs a new agent or something.

I think JGL is more talented, but his career has been shockingly poor lately. Garfield annoys me and was legit lousy in The Social Network despite all of the talk of being snubbed etc., but in Hacksaw and Silence, he's as good as JGL has been in anything since 3rd Rock from the Sun. Brick is still JGL's best movie by far. Circa Inception I never thought he'd be this irrelevant ten years later.

I like Garfield a lot, he rocked in Silence, and I think he's perfect for a lot of literary-type/adaptation roles in films. If he was like 15 years younger, he'd kill it as Hal Incandenza. Hell, I'd even like to see him as a random paranoid Pynchon character.

They are both fine. Just not my cup of tea I guess.
Garfield just slightly over JGL.
