Max's "Dafuq?" face in the background never fails to make me laugh.

if you're not voting for mad max fury road or the end of the tour in all categories.... (i know this is 2017 but this, along with any gif from this movie, is gold)

Kingsman deserves the choreography win for that church scene alone but I won't be mad when Mad Max wins.

Dang, gonna be hard to watch much before the deadline, but then, I'd just vote for Fury Road in all categories anyway. Except visual effects, which I think the Oscars got right.
Seriously, fuck Ex Machina. But not its vfx work. That deserves all the praise it gets and more.

Voted and obviously almost all my votes were for Mad Max, then a few for The Lobster.
I think these are a much more interesting set of nominees than the 2016 ones, and leaving aside the fact that I didn't care for it at all, it does make me somewhat happy to see a film like It Follows do well nomination wise.

Films I'm missing: 45 Years Beasts of No Nation Carol The End of the Tour Fifty Shades of FUCK YOUFurious 7 (just as soon as I get through Furious 3-6...) Lost River Love & Mercy Spy Tangerine Victoria Youth I recommend you watch Beasts of No Nation, Spy, 45 Years & Love & Mercy, not even in time for the voting in this, just for the sake of how great they are. Lost River is super interesting and visually appealing, even it mostly failed for me. Carol is little more than a nicely shot acting showpiece and the acting isn't even that impressive.

Lost River is super interesting and visually appealing, even it mostly failed for me. Carol is little more than a nicely shot acting showpiece and the acting isn't even that impressive. I watched Love & Mercy on Tuesday. Wasn't super impressed. It was well made except for the writing. Brian was always the victim, be it of nobody understanding his genius, or of his mental condition, or of Dr. Evil Wig, or of his father's abuse (btw, did his father look and sound like Fred MacMurray to anyone else???). He never felt alive as a character because he was always one-note. There is no sense of... responsibility, I guess. Brian is always feeling like shit because someone or something else treats him unfairly, and it is only when other people appreciate him that he breaks free. While I'm sure there's some truth to that, there is always a level of personal responsibility to everything -- ESPECIALLY when writing a protagonist for a movie.

If "See You Again" doesn't win Original Song, we riot.

If "See You Again" doesn't win Original Song, we riot. I'm not even voting in that category, as the only film I'm gonna watch before the deadline is Love & Mercy. Which had a decent song, I guess. It wasn't bad, but pretty forgettable. I did hear a cover of See You Again played on a dan tranh, and that was pretty cool.
