That seems odd to say given all the star wattage this year but with King Lear and Irons/Manville coming in Long Day's Journey Into Night, Lane/Dennehy's acclaimed Iceman Cometh, Huppert's Phaedra, Blanchett/Huppert in The Maids, they have an affiliation with Royal Shakespeare Company, Spacey did Richard III (directed by Sam Mendes) there a few years back.
Seeming more and more the place to be........maybe not overall but with one or two big shows a year.........

“I saw the film with Katie Hepburn and Ralph Richardson — with moderate rapture.” Got over his knock on Lumet's great film pretty quickly after just picturing him saying moderate rapture Great interview. Reminds me I still gotta see Brideshead Revisited, Elizabeth I, etc.

Glad to hear Jeremy is gunning for the EGOT. Surprised he hasn't won a Grammy already; the guy's got one of the all-time great voices.

I thought this was quite interesting because well - not only is it obviously true - but actors don't often say it and it ties into what we said in the "Actors Across the Three Mediums" thread - you would have to be something of a complete lunatic to ever have the career Olivier had - like he didn't just have a work ethic - he had an insane one across film and TV too:
“It’s different now. I don’t think — had I not made movies — I could have had the sort of career Olivier had, for instance, because we don’t do that many plays. I remember reading his autobiography — and I think at the end of chapter two there was a list that took a whole page of the plays he’d done. They listed them all, and they said at the end, ‘And he had done this by the time he was 27.’ You couldn’t do that now.”

New York Times chief idiot, Ben Brantley mixed positive, and in particular taking shots at Manville. In contrast for him giving full of praise for Irons. Of course take it, with a grain of salt, I mean if Ben Brantley told me it was raining, I'd doubt it ......and gee I guess he'd give a much different review if it was Tony season and this was on Broadway. He knows how this corrupt game is played ...... www.nytimes.com/2018/05/13/theater/long-days-journey-into-night-review.html
