Finished catching up, and, uh, yeah, this is incredible. Hader is a goddamn madman in this. Root, Winkler, Carrigan all incredible in this of course, but I noticed in this thread that y'all don't mention Sarah Goldberg, and she's just as excellent as everyone else. Sally is sort of this show's Kim Wexler to me, and I've loved her arc thus far. But yeah ... "ronny/lily" is a goddamn masterpiece, and I looooved the big talk between Barry and Cousineau in episode 4 of this season, that moment really got to me. I do kinda wish that Barry had actually killed Fuches in the finale ... I love Root and his character but I kinda feel like his time is done, I dunno, if they keep him around for a whole other season or more, it might just feel like dragging dead weight . But I'd love to be proven wrong on that one! Excellent show all around. Interesting, she feels more like Skyler White to me.

Finally watched season 2... solid stuff but I'm definitely less enthused than everyone on here. Relies on way too many conveniences -- the cop wanting Barry to kill his ex-wife's boyfriend instead of arresting him, the cop and boyfriend conveniently dying while Barry easily escapes the supermarket (apparently invisible to the police) . Finale kind of stunk tbh... can someone tell me why Barry massacred the Chechnyan's and everyone else in the monastery when he was only after Fuches? I've rooted for some fucked up tv anti-heroes over the years, but I'm not sure I need to give a shit about Barry anymore. And I agree with DeepArcher that Fuches should be dead by now. Or even though I love him and Henry Winkler's the MVP of the show, Fuches should have shot Gene for a really fucked up moment. But I guess they didn't have the balls to do that. Love NoHo Hank too... but his storyline on the show seems to have run its course. Season 3 should probably be the last before they really run this shit into the ground.

To answer your question on why the massacre happened, Barry just saw red and his dark nature took over. You see when he returns to the warehouse after Fuches gets away that he immediately regrets what happened, but he reacts as if he doesn't know what came over him and that he wasn't even cognizant of who it was that he killed. He just acted.
I think they would be better off wrapping it up in Season 3, I agree. Now that Gene knows about what Barry did, I can't see their relationship surviving, and I feel the walls are closing around Barry so thoroughly that there's no real way he can evade justice forever. But I bet you dollars to donuts he gets the role in the Jay Roach movie. He is, after all, 6'2".

This season has been brilliant! I love this show and the latest episode was the best so far. Obviously the car chase scene, but the Fuches scenes had me in stitches. Thinking he was in some Dances with Wolves setting asking how do you say water here? Also the womans dad saying he was a good man and offering to wed his daughter to Fuches after only knowing him for 10 minutes and the first time seeing him he had a gun shot wound.

For anyone interested there’s a weekly episode of the Prestige TV Podcast after each episode with Sean Fennessy and Bill Hader discussing. Really great stuff from Hader on the writing and filming process and lots of little tidbits.

The universe is out here offering the hottest and willingest women and the most bucolic livelihoods to Fuches, and he still ignores clear signs because he's so fucking petty. It's brilliant.

Jesus Christ, that was a finale.
It's a shame they didn't get rid of Noho Hank after season 1, his stuff is the only real blemish on an otherwise excellent season.

Great finale to the best season of the show so far. Definitely the darkest. Looking forward to next season. Some film studio should take a chance on Bill Hader as a director. He's got some serious talent based on the episodes he directed this season.
