I'm so onboard with this, but I would have been onboard with Hill too.

Hopefully it's better than Good Time. I hope so too as in Good Time was a masterpiece and I hope this is godlike. You are correct, sir.

This was once described by the Safdies as a "thriller/comedy" and as their "big pie-in-the-sky project" ....they've also teased that rappers and NBA players (Amar'e Stoudemire for one) will have cameos. It was supposed to start shooting in Jan, now the summer - I think they retooled the script for a middle aged protag (opposed to Jonah Hill in the role). James Toback was also set for a supp role several months ago, I would imagine he's out. I'd bet Keitel or somebody like that will replace him.
Also: don't underestimate a good producer! Clearly it was Scott Rudin here that brought in Sandler.

Judd Hirsch joins. As well as Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio). from DeadlineAlso...... not listed anywhere yet but Darius Khondji is very likely shooting this. (He's been scouting with the Safdies in NY)

Looks interesting. Like the cast, Bogosian and Hirsch are great additions. And with Khondji behind the camera, even better.
Sandler pushing himself sounds good. I prefer him over Hill in this, might change the dynamic, middle aged man in trouble versus a younger guy.
I just realized that since first reading about this around the Cannes FF, back when Hill was still attached to it, and reading the story was going to be set in the Manhattan Diamond District, I kinda pictured this being set within the hassidic community. I mean, never been to NY, maybe a prejudice on my part, but after hearing of the involvement of Sandler, then Hirsch & Bogosian (who is actually armenian), just reinforced my way of looking at this.
Seeing this set picture, I was probably wrong. Maybe watched too many of those great 90s Law & Order episodes 😄
Still think it would have been interesting.

from Box Office Mojo:
Huge date, major sign for Sandler, a surprise Oscar contender potentially, a very against type role... could be special...

Been hearing nothing but praise for this, especially Sandler’s turn. Guy can be a tremendous actor when given the right material (Punch Drunk Love, The Meyerowitz Stories) to name a couple.

I prefer Ben Stiller's comedies but Sandler is way better actor.
Also his performance in Reign Over Me was quite special.

If you look up set pics, you'll see Benny Safdie (behind Sandler in that pic) recording sound, which he's always done for their films but now on this their most high profile project yet he's still doing it which is very cool. Darius Khondji on the left, not their usual DP, so this might look slicker or at least different from their previous films... And they always get strong perfs from their actors. This could be Sandler's The Gambler (remember, they wanted to cast Toback) or Killing of a Chinese Bookie......

Even if Good Time hadn’t more than lived up to its name (Pattinson should really play both Batman and Joker), this image would have garnered enough curiosity out of me to place it near the top of the year’s watchlist (it is, admittedly, a short list.) -

a trailer for this would be nice you know.....yuh know? Idk if anyone else caught it but months ago the production team accidentally dropped a (really great) scene on vimeo, taken down eventually but I watched it a hundred times so I feel like that was my 'teaser trailer' haha..... but yeah, I've said before.... Netflix has this globally besides the US so you'd think at least they would release a little somethin' by now, and also I wonder how they might help or y'know push or pad the A24 pockets if they're gonna go for awards, bc while audiences may find the movie harsh I can see the guilds taking to the movie......
