Loved Sheridan's Sicario, Wind River and last year's BP nominee Hell or High Water. This looks even better than I expected. Visually stunning and should be intense.

I hope Gil Birmingham has a juicy supporting part.

Costner seems to be a perfect fit for Sheridan. This could be great

Costner, Sheridan, plus being a western...definitely all worth a view.

I bailed on it halfway through the first episode. It's super dry and giving me western Bloodline vibes. Life's too short. lol.

It definitely has its strengths, including some choice lines and some really fine cinematography . . . but it took its sweet-ass time to get going. The thing I appreciate about Sheridan is that even in his slow-burners, he doesn't dilly-dally. But here, it just felt so unwieldy. We never got a sense of the Costner family unit until the tragedy at the end. The Bloodline comparisons are not unwarranted, although I think this is already a much stronger debut than that show ever had (even if it sorely needs a Ben Mendelsohn-level standout; Kelly Reilly and Gil Birmingham seem the most likely to be). I'll keep watching, but it has a lot of pitfalls to skirt from here on out.

It was an alright 1st episode. A LOT to take in (sorta felt overstuffed) but I'll definitely stick with it.

The episode definitely didn’t need to be 90 minutes long, but I am excited to see where the show goes from here now that things have been set up.

2nd episode was generally good though I’m a little concerned about the show’s handling of violence. Never before have I found Sheridan’s violence to be gratuitous, but the random scene of a wolf getting run over by a truck felt really unnecessary, especially the decision to have the camera briefly linger on the run-over corpse. I don’t have an issue with disturbing violence against animals but what was the point of that scene? If it’s supposed to be a metaphor, surely the metaphor could’ve been incorporated in a scene with actual plot relevance. In a better script, the wolf would’ve functioned on two levels: as a metaphor and as something naturally inserted into the story. A metaphor that serves zero narrative purpose beyond being a metaphor is kinda a pet peeve of mine. As it is, it just feels like a random scene of violence inserted in to be shocking. As a huge fan of Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River, this is probably my least favorite work from Sheridan to date. But once again, it’s still good, just a step down, but I’m going to stick with it and hope things will improve because there are elements that do work well.

There’s a lot about the show that’s grown on me. In particular most of the performances are good and there’s some compelling family drama but the show sure does enjoy random stupid stuff too. Character encounters a random meth lab explosion, just happen to pass by a couple of men who kidnapped a woman, and in the latest episode, while in the middle of dealing with a goddamn bear, a character finds a couple of tourists hanging off of a cliff (naturally they die).
Look, I know life is random and I’m not opposed to films and shows portraying the random things that we sometimes stumble into, but this just feels like the show doesn’t trust the views to be hooked in by the drama and characters so they think up a new “action hook” every episode.

I'll be honest here, I've seen every episode so far but kinda let down by a number of the story lines . My main complaints are Gil Birmingham doesn't get enough screen time . And in a good amount of the episodes, Costner takes a back seat too. Its frustrating to watch sometimes. I will say this, Kelly Reilly is an enigma on this show. God damn is she so good in this and I am happy that her role is a lot juicer than her True Detective role. Also love the setting of the show . There are 3 episodes left for the 1st season so we'll see how it goes.

When someone posts an alternate theory about the character illegally killing the bear and then killing the two tourists who witnessed it, I couldn’t help but think about how that sounds so much more plausible (and interesting) than what actually happened. And now there’s yet another random scene of violence involving a character we just met. It’s honestly kinda hilarious and bizarre that Sheridan (who I really like a lot) is the credited writer of every episode. I feel he’s so much better than this.

^^ completely agree dude (for some reason I can't quote you right now) . Its frustrating to say the least cause this shit is getting really "soap opera " ish . Definitely Sheridan's weakest work yet imo (hopefully since it picked up for a 2nd season, it'll get better lol) So many laughable story lines that don't quite make sense .

That surgery scene in the season 2 premiere was one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen in a long time. Solid premiere.

That surgery scene in the season 2 premiere was one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen in a long time. Solid premiere. ^^^ yeah that was almost too real looking and disgusting . This show , of course gets a little "soap opera" ish at times but the 2nd season is shaping up nicely 2 episodes in. I felt bad for Rip at the end of the 2nd episode (esp after all he's done for the Dutton family) Kelly "Smoke Show" Reilly as Beth is my fav character and I was laughing my ass off when she was clowning on that realtor .

I still don’t think the show is perfect but season 2 has definitely been a big improvement over season 1. The brutality feels a lot less forced than in season 1 and I’m really enjoying Jamie and Beth’s stories.

Watched the two seasons and absolutely friggin' LOVED it. Dunno about you folks (judging by this thread, not too many watched it) but such kind of a story - a big modern tale about ranching, landlords and cowboys - is totally my jam. The thing is just so well made with its gorgeous cinematography enveloping you in the feeling of the mighty land, with the characters sweeping you up even if they are by all means a pretty fucked up bunch. Almost every dialogue exchange turns into a quiet yet lethal verbal shootout which is very Taylor Sheridan - boy, how many great one-liners did I hear in this! I couldn't get enough of it and I almost don't believe that I gotta wait until the middle of next year for a third helping. And that'll feature Josh goddamn Holloway! This show sure knows what I wanna see.
Amazing ensemble work with my main man Kevin Costner doing some of the best stuff of his career, especially in the first season where he was just staggering. But the real revelation to me is Cole Hauser and his incredible take on the Rip character. If that performance ain't awards worthy, I dunno what it. Actually, the whole damn thing deserved to win multiple accolades and yet somehow was completely left out of the Emmys and the Globes and such. What a bunch of horseshit. The cinematography alone is better than in most Oscar-worthy movies. Well, thankfully the audiences are much smarter than that with the show's ratings apparently being very high. Damn straight they should be high!
Oh, and I grew to love Jimmy so much as well! I was constantly hoping for him to be okay.
