Poesía Sin Fin (Endless Poetry) is eligible? One of the origin countries is France and (based on IMDB) it premiered in 2016. Yeah I was looking at that too. Pretty sure it's eligible in 2016. Great movie btw.

I was so wrong. There are too many solid song choices from this year. I'm sure that most years will be full of crap (and to be fair, these are only "solid" and not mind-blowing), but this category is proving to be the toughest to whittle down. Between Hail Caesar, La La Land, Pete's Dragon, Swiss Army Man and Your Name, this is a bloodbath.

I stand corrected on song (for 2016 at least). It was a struggle to get to five for 2017, two choices are filler for sure.

In some categories, I didn't come up with 5 for the simple reason that I couldn't really remember anything that stood out on some categories. Like sound mixing/editing. I don't normally do these lineups, so it's difficult for me to pull stuff up from memory. FYC FOR BEST SONGDream Lantern (or pretty much anything from Your Name. Make it happen!) No Dames

I'll be voting fo no dames. This year, for things like score, song & the two sound categories, I'm going to try and update those lineups as the year rolls on. I always have the same problem at year end too, "what score was cool" or "which film had great sound editing".

The only things I was interested in getting to before the deadline were Fences and Lion, but I doubt I will, and I'd be more concerned about missing the deadline at this point.

Fences has a pretty great perf from Washington (best of the Oscar nominees imo), but the movie itself doesn't use the medium of film very well -- the long monologues and emphatic speeches work on stage because you're communicating to an audience, but on film you're communicating to a screen, and different techniques must be used. Washington is the only one that really seemed to understand this. Lion is fine, it's fine, it's perfectly fine. Unremarkable in every way. I guess there were good performances, but the story was cookie-cutter predictable Weinsteining, if you know what I mean.

This is my thing with Lion...I'm expecting exactly what you describe, and other than Kidman being in it, I really just don't care. I feel like I'll watch both of these at some point, but not by the middle of next week.

I'm glad you mention Hail, Caesar! as "No Dames" was the best scene in that film and can't believe it wasn't nominated anywhere (not even our very own ICCs last year).

So is The Founder not eligible cuz it wasn't released theatrically in the US until 2017? I recall it did get a qualifying release. On the release dates page, it says this: If you want to vote for it, that's fine.

I may be wrong about this, but the December 7th date was the premiere at Arclight Hollywood so it should count as the movie's release. There's certainly precedent for that. Most movies used to have single-venue premieres before opening in more theaters, and those premiere dates kept them eligible in the awards circuit.

The Arclight is a regular theater, so that's not a festival showing.

Are the following films eligible? Your Name My Life as a Zucchini I, Daniel Blake The Salesman The Oath Things to Come I'll check the the domestic release dates. Your Name had better be eligible, since I voted for it in damn near everything (heck, it's my cinematography winner). Your Name -- Japan release 26 August 2016 eligibleMy Life As a Zucchini -- France release 19 October 2016 eligibleI, Daniel Blake -- UK release 21 October 2016 eligibleThe Salesman -- Iran release 31 August 2016 eligibleThe Oath -- Iceland release 9 September 2016 eligibleThings to Come -- France release 6 April 2016 eligibleAll of them are eligible. Films listed in IMDb as 2016 that are NOT eligible are some of the following: The Bad Batch Collosal Free Fire The Lost City of Z Sleight Split Films listed as 2015 in IMDb that ARE eligible for 2016 awards that I am familiar with: Green Room Into the Forest Last Days in the Desert Long Way North The Witch

Need to force myself to finally watch Paterson and The Handmaiden in the next two days. Still need to see Paterson myself, but The Handmaiden is fucking fantastic. It's like a twisted, Park Chan-wook version of a lesbian Hitchcock thriller. Top ten of the year for me. And the acting from both female leads is terrific.

Making a small list of movies to see before voting:
Paterson. Blue Jay. Your Name. My Life as a Zucchini. I Am Not Your Negro. The Wailing. Imperial Dreams.

Is choreography only for stunts (considering the name), or can we nominated a film with dancing/no "stunts"?
