Also, I'm a big enough Lynch nerd that the "This is the chair" line seriously cracked me up.

Really, really loved this last episode. And it was actually the funniest one in the entire show for me (I AM NOT YOUR FOOT and Gordon awkwardly staring at Diane).

Episode 9 wasn't quite on the level of its predecessor (and I'm glad that they gave us an extra week to detox from Episode 8; anything immediately afterward would've seemed like a comedown), but it set the pieces on the chessboard that the previous episode had all but demolished. EvilCoop is about to go on a rampage, hits are going out left and right, and we're starting to see everything coalesce. We know the ring in Briggs's belly will lead Cole and the Gang to Dougie, and the Fuscos will learn from the DNA that Dougie is actually Dale Cooper. I gotta say, though, I'm more fascinated by the goings-on outside of Twin Peaks than anything dealing with the townsfolk. Aside from the Sheriff's Department crew, any time we drop in on the townsfolk feels like an admittedly good but nevertheless slightly unwelcome distraction from all the awesomeness happening elsewhere. But as events are starting to push northwest, I think it's still good we're seeing things come together up there, so that we don't have to spend more time getting acclimated to the town 25 years later.

I was worried how this episode could seem like anything other than a let down after the brilliance of the previous one, but it actually turned out to be pretty great. It pushed plots and was very, very funny. I loved it, just like all the other episodes.
I'm digging those three giggling detectives. I'd love them to meet up with the waitress from the Double R diner and to just have a 1/2 minute scene that is nothing more than a back and forth laugh off.

Another fantastic episode. Although this is the least predictable show ever made, I kinda felt that the follow-up to the bonkers 8th episode was going to be more linear and 'normal', which it was. And it's awesome to see the cryptic story become less and less impenetrable. This, along with episode 7, felt very close to the spirit of the original series. Those moments with Bobby, new Truman and Hawk were truly fantastic and captured the emotional nature of the original series extremely well. And even though new Badalamenti stuff is scarce in this show, when it's on, it's magnificent. And it really seems like the breaks between the episodes are just as important as the episodes themselves. It's like the air between them is every bit as vital a part of the overall experience as the episodes are. Can't imagine binge-watching it, tbh. I mean, that way of viewing would make for a whole different experience, but I dunno, watching it weekly makes it seem like the series is not just unfolding, but floating through space and time. I think I'm in love.
Can't wait to see how the chicks from the final scene will relate to the overall picture. That rash was nasty, man.

Yet another masterful episode. After the mind-melting genius of Part 8, I wondered whether it'd be jarring to go back to business-as-usual this week (to be fair, business-as-usual on THIS show is still pretty f**king weird). Thus, I think it was very wise of Lynch/Frost to use this episode's so-called return to "normalcy" as the time to absolutely CRAM the plot progression and narrative momentum that some fans have (unjustly) accused this show of lacking. We got tons of answers as well as many new mysteries to unpack. Felt like a very procedural, Mark Frost-centric episode to me, and there was a giddy thrill seeing all the disparate plot threads start to weave together.
This episode might very well be the funniest hour of Twin Peaks we've ever had. I mean every single episode has certainly contained a lot of humor, but this one felt like an out and out comedy at times. I must've laughed out loud twenty times. Once again there're just too many great moments to list out here, but I especially enjoyed "I am not your foot", "What happens in season 2?", the laughing detectives, "Cooper flew the coop!", "It's a fucking MORGUE!", and that wonderful static shot of Gordon, Tammy, and Diane that went on forever. I'm so, so happy (and frankly relieved) to learn that Chrysta Bell's extremely over-the-top, artificial performance is actually intentional. All those poses within two minutes (she's clearly quite intimidated by Diane!) were absolutely hilarious. Never thought Tammy would grow on me! I think I just needed the introduction of Laura Dern into the group to accept/understand Tammy's specific, bizarre flavor within the mix. And man oh man is Laura Dern knocking it out of the park, just as everyone knew she would. This was NEVER the Diane I imagined from the original series. She's even better.
One last thing: I was SO happy to see Matthew Lillard return. That scene was absolutely incredible. It starts out so tragic, and then slowly becomes so pitiful that it builds this awkward tension within the scene (is this supposed to be funny or not?), until he starts blubbering about wanting to go SCUBA-DIVING and it becomes utterly hilarious in this bizarre, cruel way. And this journey culminates in the absolute perfect punchline ("Fruitcake, anyone?"). Such a sad yet hysterical scene. Lillard is killing it and I hope this raises his profile.

chris3Very much agree on Matthew Lillard. I was so glad to see him back, and I never thought I'd say it but dude deserves an award. He's probably my favorite of the entire cast so far and it's amazing how well he actually fits within David Lynch's type of world. However, I never really thought of Chrysta Bell - out of all the cast members - to be over-the-top. Artificial, sure, as I feel most characters in a David Lynch picture are, but over-the-top seems a bit much. Going back to artificial, though, I would agree that I think it's just intentional - like a facade masquerading as something insecure underneath. That's a quality I feel a lot of Twin Peaks characters possess, which is what has always made the show so great. It can turn a five-minute staring contest into something much deeper (often darker). As for this last episode, I think it might actually be my least favorite so far. Mainly because, as some have said, it felt very Mark Frost and less David Lynch. It just felt like a filler episode, a transition episode, to place all the pieces of the puzzle together and now we'll get to see where it goes from there. Not bad at all, and in fact necessary, just after waiting two weeks felt like a bit of a letdown.

Ok guys, I'm having fomo issues with S3 of Twin Peaks. I didn't love S1 when I watched it a couple of months ago, but I liked it enough that I'm intrigued with The Return, especially after all the love its been getting.
However, I've also heard a lot of hate for S2. Is it worth me trekking through it to be up to date, or could I get by on a general overview? I'd rather watch it of course, but I don't know if I have time for something that isn't all that great.

Season 2 definitely has its rough patches, but in my humble opinion, you should stick it out. There are far more great episodes than bad, and the show roars back to life near the end of it, and you still have Fire Walk With Me to go.

Yeah, I'd heard it starts and ends well, with some bad episodes in the middle. I'll probably watch it and see how it goes, and I'm definitely going to watch Fire Walk With Me regardless.

I would say the first 7 episodes of season 2 are on par with 1. The finale of 2 is probably the best episode of the original series. If you weren't feeling the show that strongly in season 1 though I kinda doubt you'll gain much from continuing.

I mean, there's a lot I did like about S1, including the phenomenal first and last episodes, but I also found a lot of it kinda dull and irritating. I think I'll probably watch the first couple and see how it goes.

The first 7-8 episodes of Season 2 aren't that far off quality wise from Season 1 (although if you didn't love Season 1 this might not mean much). And that batch also has one of the best episodes of the series.
The rest of Season 2 is pretty hit or miss until the finale, which is my favorite episode of TV and one of the best things Lynch has ever done. So I say the show is worth sticking through to get to that point alone.
As a side note, watching Fire Walk With Me before Season 3 is essential.

Hmm, probably the weakest installment since the first couple of episodes. It was far less enlightening and/or gloriously perplexing than most of this season's episodes, and there just wasn't a whole lot of development in general. There were a handful of funny bits; namely Dougie's and Janey-E's sexual ventures (perhaps the best development this episode is the fact that she's growing so accustomed to her "new" husband that she probably won't end up happy after Cooper snaps out of it), and all the stuff with the Mitchum brothers has been super entertaining (has Candie been Dougie-ified or something?). Shifting some focus back towards Richard was, er ... "nice" ...; I think the fact that Ben and Sylvia are his grandparents more or less confirms that Audrey is his mother, and I'm thinking his absolutely evil behavior here indicates that he's an offspring of Evil Coop. And Harry Dean Stanton is always a pleasure to see, no matter how minimal the appearance.

The first half of S2 is, in my opinion, just as great as everything in S1 - genuinely fantastic. Then a certain thing happens and you can easily see where it all goes a bit wrong. Approximately three episodes in the middle are just completely useless and boring as hell, but then the show manages to sorta get back on track, leading up to a killer finale. It's mostly a good season, just very imperfect in its second half. But the first half of it is brilliant.

Yet another solid episode which could've been smashing had they not spent 10 hours on that casino guys and 20 hours on that MD lady's never-ending song. I love Twin Peaks, a LOT but I am not really a fan of how they're ending each episode with a song. It always leaves me wanting for more. - So hands down, this episode belonged to Dougie and Janey-E. I love this couple already, so much that I don't care if Coop returns now😉. Also, it would be real sad when Janey-E realizes about her husband's death Won't be surprised if she died in the next episode. Their cute scene together seemed too good for Twin Peaks. - Amanda Seyfried is a perfect Lynch heroine. She looks so promising in this. - So, Wtf was that Diane thing? Is she evil? Something doesn't seem right. - And it's almost confirmed about Richard's mother then? - Laura Palmer's scene was freaky as hell. Very intrigued to see how Lynch will take that thing forward. Gordon Cole was the last person I'd imagine to have a hallucinations about Laura. - Audrey and Sarah Palmer, please come soon. - Nadine..❤ So, a pretty interesting episode overall. And since Ep. 11 is gonna be premiering at SDCC, I believe something big will happen.. One of these: - Coop returns. - Janey-E dies. - Audrey returns. But then again, Lynch might pull an episode 8. And lastly, Sonny Jim❤❤❤
