www.vulture.com/2018/02/quincy-jones-in-conversation.htmlHe's 84 and he doesn't give a fuck. He still talks like a smooth brother from the 70s. He refers to Harvey Weinstein as a "jive motherfucker." -He says that Michael Jackson was who I always suspected he was "as Machiavellian as they come." I always knew he wasn't as innocent as he played. Quincy says Jackson was greedy and stole music. He stole the song that is his crown jewel "Billie Jean" from a Donna Summer song. That's going to burst some bubbles, but musicians steal all the time. -He said his first impression of the Beatles was that they were the worst musicians he'd ever heard, and he talked about being in the studio with them and how awful Ringo was as a drummer, so he had to bring in a jazz drummer. (Remember, Quincy's from the school of being skilled in terms of playing notes. That's different from judging their songwriting, which was exceptional.) -Even though Oprah is his friend, he doesn't think she has the chops to run for President (this Oprah as President narrative is so silly to me anyway. Because she gave a good speech at the Globes?). -He talks about how in the old, racist days he wasn't allowed in places, but Frank Sinatra would fix that for him (was Frank Sinatra not the greatest friend to black people in the industry? He had his asshole ways, but there are so many stories like that about him helping out black entertainers back in the day). -He talks about Marlon Brando being a great dancer and the fact that he would fuck anything- but we already knew that. We didn't all know that he fucked Richard Pryor though, but I believe it. What a pair. -He talks about the truth behind the Catholic religion. And says he's not religious because he knows too much about it. Church!

What's great about the Beatles comment is he singles out Paul McCartney -which is pretty ballsy - who is arguably the greatest Rock and Roll bassist - by any standard - I mean he's certainly in any discussion of that. Like even people who hate the Beatles usually don't go there. You got to hand it to Quincy who kind of disses Hendrix in the same interview too

I love that even with all the smack Quincy talked, he still had to give props to Ringo being a good dude.

Like even people who hate the Beatles usually don't go there. John Entwistle would give Paul a run for his money in a discussion, but he's in the discussion if we're just talking rock & roll. Quincy wasn't that impressed by him though. But I think that's because this is a man who comes from the world of jazz geniuses. He worked with Charles Mingus and Miles Davis. Quincy was more impressed by the guys in Cream than the Beatles, which I can kind of understand if you base it on playing ability.

I love that even with all the smack Quincy talked, he still had to give props to Ringo being a good dude. That's why it didn't come across as an interview with an old man who was just being bitter and one-sided. I think he's just straight up like that. He used to get at Michael Jackson to his face about his plastic surgery and the vitiligo excuse being bullshit.

I do adore this kind of trash talking, but I just wish more people in the business would do it. I'm talking current musicians, directors, actors and actresses.
