Nobody brought it up so it didn't matter. That's how it works now.

Not seeing a lot of coverage of this, so he'll be fine.

The frontrunner, that everyone and their hamster knew was the frontrunner, forced Franco out. Sound logic?

I've said this before in a different thread, but--
We'll never know just how much the controversy affected Franco's chances, but the guy was clearly never a top 4 contender, his film is a comedy about The Room, and since his one Oscar nomination 7 years ago, the most note-worthy thing he's done in between directing 46 piece of shit direct-to-VOD adaptations of classic novels for $200 each was The Interview. Which got ripped to shreds. I was expecting him to get nominated, but in hindsight it's hardly shocking that he didn't, especially when he was up against a now 9-time nominee who nearly won his 3rd last year, is one of the industry's most beloved performers and had a similar precursor run (hitting SAG + Globe, getting snubbed by BAFTA). I don't think Franco is all that well-liked in the industry.
And Oldman's still fine, by the by. The 6 nominations for Darkest Hour made it abundantly clear how much love there is for it.

Because it needs to be said: Gary Oldman never beat his wife.
We see this come up way too often, and it really upsets us every time it does.
Yes, during their divorce proceedings, his third wife accused him of beating both her and their children. It was investigated by the courts, social services, and the LAPD, and no evidence was ever found to substantiate her claims. Gary was given full custody of their children, and she was only allowed short, court-monitored visits. The judge in the case outright called her a liar.
She also accused him of drinking and doing drugs while they were married. Gary quit drinking in 1994 with the help of rehab and Alcoholics Anonymous, and has stated numerous times that he never did, or was interested in doing, drugs.
There are several people who witnessed her applying, and then later washing off, makeup to look like bruises. She told their son Charlie, who was 2 at the time, to say that his daddy hit him. Abuse she claims was perpetuated on their children by Gary, some of it serious enough to require trips to the hospital, has no paper trail; there are no records whatsoever of any ER visits for their children, or for her.
I think what is most telling is that there are no other claims of abuse on Gary from any of his previous wives or girlfriends (Lesley Manville, Uma Thurman, Isabella Rossellini, Ailsa Marshall, and Alexandra Edenborough). You would think, when his third wife leveled her accusations against him, the previous women in his life would have come forward and said, “Yes, I was abused too.” But they didn’t. After his divorce, he dated Ailsa for about three years, and he was married to Alex for about 6 years. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that 5 women would all keep it a secret if their husband/boyfriend abused them, not to mention Gary’s girlfriends that we don’t know about.
Nobody but his third wife has made these claims, and that alone should tell you something.
Gary is quite obviously a warm, caring person, who loves with his whole heart, and it’s a shame that it had to come back and bite him in the ass in such a big way.
We would also like to point out that false claims like this are just as harmful as legitimate claims, as they further the belief that someone who is under the influence can’t be abused/raped/assaulted/etc because they must be lying. Sometimes a lie is just a lie.
We can’t stop people from continuing to report these lies, but we can at least try to make people think before choosing to believe it.

As alluded to by other posters and in the other thread about this, the allegations against him are highly dubious, even beyond Woody Allen territory. News sources that want to be considered reputable shouldn't print shit rumors against public figures like this.

That is the most idiotic article. God, people are paid to write this shit. The ONLY mention of the other side of the story is "It is certainly true that a judge eventually sided with Oldman, granting him custody of their young sons. " Which should, you know, get a lot more attention than an offhanded sentence in an article declaring him to be the devil.

Why do you guys hate The Daily Mail so much? Because it's the Daily Mail. Yeah, but what’s the problem with that media outlet? I mean, it seems that it’s hated to a point where Wikipedia banned its usage...

This is another situation where I don't feel comfortable making any conclusions, and I don't think it's fair for people to do that. When you go through a nasty divorce, typically both sides are at each other's throats and willing to say anything to make the other party look like the worst person in the world. And the resentment usually remains after the divorce is finalized. So I'm not trying to argue that Gary Oldman has to be an angel because I like his acting. I'm objectively saying that we should not rush to conclusions when it comes to bitter divorces like this because there is so much we don't know.

Today in my film class, a classmate said that he didn’t want Gary Oldman to win the Oscar because he beat his wife (basically saying it as an undisputed fact) and when I tried to explain to him the points that you posted, he ignored me. I appreciate you laying out the facts but sometimes I wonder what good it’ll actually do if people are just gonna ignore them. I was curious where you found this info though: "There are several people who witnessed her applying, and then later washing off, makeup to look like bruises. She told their son Charlie, who was 2 at the time, to say that his daddy hit him. Abuse she claims was perpetuated on their children by Gary, some of it serious enough to require trips to the hospital, has no paper trail; there are no records whatsoever of any ER visits for their children, or for her." Whenever I try searching for it, I just find recent articles about this old allegation.

It's incredible, especially on Oscar week, how all journalists are throwing hissy fits about his 'domestic abuse' yet they never share the information about his custody over his kids and his wife's past drug issues. The main thing you could accuse him of (besides his previous comments which he apologised for) is his issues with alcohol in which he has been sober for 20 years and managed to raise his kids with no issues and gone on to have a great career which is commendable in itself. But no, everything has to be negative.
More than ever I want him to win the Oscar on Sunday just to stick it to these idiots.
