there's just no way around it
i'm not a tankie or a DPRK fan at all, but i absolutely believe kimjong has a master plan to his actions right now. he's on top of the world over there, nobody will ever fuck with him because he's aligned with china, and he's the dictator of his country. and now he wants to build nukes and fuck w the US which will inevitably mean he gets nuked back himself? please. i don't buy it for a minute. i think he realized that, on a global scale, the DPRK is hardly that popular, and realizing that he couldn't really go "down" from there, wants to make the US look weak in comparison to the eastern world. it wouldn't surprise me if china is in on it as well.
all these nuclear threats against the US are mostly hogwash, although they do bring up interesting arguments on who is "allowed" to have nuclear weapons (the country that dropped two on civilians is, so why not others?). the US is not going to strike fucking north korea first lmao, and if NK strikes then there will be some form of retaliation, which kimjong obviously doesn't want. he doesn't want to be a martyr. trump isn't any tougher on him than obama would have been; this exact same situation would have played out two years ago, the only difference is obama wouldn't respond to these tweets. i definitely think it's to make trump look weak, and it's hilarious that kimjong is the one beating trump at his own game here.
what say ye

If a war actually does indeed break out between USA and North Korea, it’ll be because USA made the first move. Not the other way around. Kim is smart enough to know that he’d get obliterated. The money North Korea spends on their military is peanuts compared to USA.

I don't think he's necessarily trying to make the U.S. weak (I think every country in the world would agree engaging in nuclear war is a bad idea), but I do think he's purposefully taunting Trump and trying to bait him into embarrassing himself to weaken America's international standing further.

I think it's fairly obvious, he's seen what happened in Iraq and Libya (etc.) and he's clutching at his position. The nukes are basicly his life insurance. If people know he sits at the trigger, they won't attack him. I wouldn't excactly call it a masterplan though (it's clever and he plays it well but not some extremely sophisticated labyrinth), it's just that most of the media feeds us bullshit. Same in Germany and probably everywhere (certainly in NK too) though I saw some expert on (german) TV once describing the situation as it really is. That was fairly funny as the national news he was on (Tagesschau I believe) usually tries to push the "Kim is a delusional maniac" narrative. Even better the moderator who interviewed him pushes that for instance, it was a little surreal. I believe Kim is probably a decently smart guy, not a genius but say IQ 115 or 120 (not because I care much about IQ but it makes it easier to express). He knows what he's doing and he probably has some really smart advisors too. Trump is probably trying to scare him in some fashion, he actually seems more scared than Kim. I don't really think he knows what to do (must be frustrating when you want to prevent him from building those nukes but you can't do anything) but I hope he won't start a war (I would bet against it but the record of the USA ain't too good). Should a war start I would blame the US more than Trump personally. There are enough people who'd actively want a war, not just one senile president jumping on a sudden impulse.
Well yeah, it's definitely dangerous because it's a powderkeg that will remain for now and even if the people should rise, it will probably be bloody. I think Kim might want to initate some kind of talks. The sanctions are not good for his country. Besides that he grew up in Europe and went to school there afaik (his upbrining was definitely not too backwards), I don't know if he wants to play isolationism forever but he does want to keep his power. It's difficult (as should be obvious by the incredibly ammount of parenthesis I've used on such a short text).

People mix this up all the time. The US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not nuclear bombs. If they did then those locations would be like Chernobyl.

There are two types of nuclear bombs: atomic (which use nuclear fission) and hydrogen (which use nuclear fusion). The reason Chernobyl is uninhabitable but Hiroshima and Nagasaki aren't is because Chernobyl released a hell of a lot more nuclear fuel (around 180 tons) and exploded at ground level.
