*Speaking of Cannes, Von Trier debuts his uber-violent The House That Jack Built there to much controversy. Reports of faintings and walk-outs abound. It gets mixed reviews and becomes the most polarizing film of the year, à la mother!. Von Trier goes on a raucous anti-Trump tirade at the press conference, which generates a lot of headlines but doesn't get him banned again. *Finally, Godard unveils Le Livre d'Image to much confusion. Pictures. Sounds. Jumpcuts. Catrician's passionate thread in defense of it is one of the highlights of the second semester. *Leonardo DiCaprio's next project is announced: a re-team with Alejandro González Iñárritu in another period piece. It begins production in late 2018 for a 2019 release. *Tom Hooper's feature adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats gets underway. * Avatar 2 miraculously doesn't get pushed back again. Was off about the Trump tirade and DiCaprio's reteam is with Tarantino instead of AGI, but the rest were okay. After Tully's strong reviews and The Front Runner's early awards buzz I fully expected this one to turn out 100% wrong. Too bad it didn't, I was hoping Reitman would back. Yeah, I'll go ahead and hold on to this one verbatim for 2019. Speaking of which: Scratch that: fully expecting The House That Jack Built-level pans for this one (without as many diehard defenders to offset the hate), as well as Amazon potentially dropping the rights and a smaller company picking them up. This was fun.

Avengers: Infinity War will disappoint people after a week of audience acclaim. Solo will flop (relative to its brand) and there will be more bad memes than people seeing it
Kirk Douglas won't die.Warner Brothers announces the DC universe semi reboot. Criterion announces more 80s teen comedies already on BluRay in their collection. Ready Player One kills cinema.
