...to Protest Harassment in Hollywood
Expect to see a lot of black on the red carpet at the 2018 Golden Globes.
Many prominent actresses (including nominees Jessica Chastain, Meryl Streep and Emma Stone) will be wearing black gowns to the awards show early next year to protest sexual harassment in Hollywood, according to multiple reports. The trend will start at the Globes on Jan. 7 and may continue throughout awards season.
ET has reached out to Hollywood Foreign Press Association reps for comment.
Actresses haven't been shy about speaking out against sexual misconduct in Hollywood. Though the storm started with allegations of decades of sexual harassment and assault by Harvey Weinstein, James Toback, Jeffrey Tambor, Kevin Spacey, Brett Ratner, Louis C.K., Russell Simmons, Dustin Hoffman and Adam Venit have all made headlines for claims of sexual misconduct.
While speaking with ET last month, Chastain opened up about the recent string of scandals, revealing that she thinks the problem is "more than just about gender."
“It's about everything in this industry. I mean, this industry, we're very quick to separate ourselves from the current administration, or things that are going on in the world," she explained.
“I want to be a part of an industry that is very inclusive,” she added. “One that teaches empathy, and the only way you do that is, you learn about someone who doesn't look like you. And I think there's a generation of artists that that is their goal.” www.etonline.com/actresses-will-reportedly-wear-black-golden-globes-protest-harassment-hollywood-92738

Jessica Chastain is in this heavy!
Now watch someone wear bright, bright red or neon colors to stand out.

This whole thing is complete bullshit and quite frankly I expected more from someone like Emma Stone who I thought had a brain and didn't care all that much about what other people thought of her.

It's just a basic lack of empathy. People are self-centered dicks who can't see beyond their own noses basically.

Scott Weinberg responded:
And she just said to that :"That’s not what I’m implying you mansplaining twit"
Wow. And Rose, what about YOUR hypocrisy, you Victor Salva supporter?

Rose McGowan is getting on my nerves . She has evey right to be angry at Swinestein&Cie but her support of Salva has exposed her a FAKE biAtch too.

Meryl, honey, I love you, but are we really meant to believe that everyone in Hollywood knew about this but you, who's been around since the 70s?

Meryl, honey, I love you, but are we really meant to believe that everyone in Hollywood knew about this but you, who's been around since the 70s? That doesn't make the protest any less valid. Streep and others are riding a wave of momentum to talk about something that affects every woman in the film industry, and now is the best time to mobilize people to address it because it's in the public eye right now. You have to take advantage of that.

lmao piss off. so excited for hollywood to get on its soapbox and lecture us about sexual harassment. tired of their bourgeois moral grandstanding and hypocrisy. not remotely interested in what people who kept mum for decades have to say now (unless she herself/he himself was personally a victim. full support there)

Streep and others are riding a wave of momentum to talk about something that affects every woman in the film industry, and now is the best time to mobilize people to address it because it's in the public eye right now. You have to take advantage of that. They certainly have the right to protest, and I do think they should. What bothers me is the lack of balls to speak the truth - of course many of them knew it. I'm not trying to say they're the worst people on Earth - Meryl herself had her share of harrassment on the hands of Dustin Hoffman. But all those years, many powerful and influential women could've used their powers by simply not working with Weinstein, Allen and etc, but now are choosing to wear black at an awards show - something that won't change anything in the industry and is all about media. Anyways, it's a mixed bag. You have people like Chastain who have always used their voice to speak out what they believe, and you have someone like Kate Winslet who has the nerve to praise Woody Allen even after the whole #MeToo movement.

Anyways, what's the point of publishing pictures of these women - many of them, like Paltrow and Hall, who have been victims of his sexual harrassment?

(1) Chanel invented the little black dress because everyone can look good in it. (2) The hypocrisy is also what makes a lot of people feel uncomfortable about the whole situation

They should just boycott it altogether. This way, you hit the man in the wallet where it hurts the most and you don't have to be judged on your looks and fashion sense by third rate celeb panel shows and magazines read by people in waiting rooms!

I hate to say it but she's right. If this hadn't come to light, some of these actresses would have continued to work with Weinstein and remained silent. It's little more than PR and jumping on a bandwagon and it's really kind of sickening that the ones with more clout are now trying to be seen to be leading the bandwagon. In media terms actresses like McGowan and Judd and others who had the courage to speak out could easily be swept aside for Streep, Lawrence, Kidman, etc... You have to wonder if they'll be wearing these black dresses? Hey, so would she. She took his money and stayed silent for years while she had a career to worry about. Now she calls out others for doing the exact same crap she's done. She defended Vic Salva ("he’s an incredibly sweet and gentle man, lovely to his crew, and a very hard worker"), she worked with Harvey Weinstein (she was in BOTH the movies in Grindhouse) she paints herself as this great crusader yet has little to no sensitivity whatsoever when it comes to race, or gender, she's just like all of these people she's trying to clamber onto the shoulders of for attention, another Hollywood opportunist working an angle to her advantage (the moment she started plugging her book on twitter was outstanding stuff). Back in October when all this started and she had that couple of days when she repeatedly replied to celebs tweeting out their thoughts on the situation demanding they used her specific verbiage to denounce what was happening or nothing they said meant anything reminded me of when Donny 45 demand people use the term "radical islamic terror", as that was the really important thing. She's just awful. Let's not compare this clown to people like Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, Asia Argento, Salma Hayek (who genuinely had this man ruin their careers in addition to what he subjected them to) or even a legit speaker of truths like Courtney Love. Now there's a hero.

Yeah, the THAT IS BRAND NEW INFORMATION crowd is really the funniest. I'm sure Hollywood insiders like Courtney Love and Tina Fey were part of a secret society that knew the truth, and kept it from everybody else.
