That baby though, Kojima-san never lost his sense of humour. The man gives us 3 trailers in 3 years and no gameplay and I'm still excited for this, he is a god. Also, did he took some classes with David Lynch, because I have no fucking idea what I just watched, and I love it. And that score, yes

The only thing this game is missing is David Lynch.

All I know about this is that it's apparently pushing back the release date of The Last of Us Part II Which I am absolutely okay with. Don't get me wrong, I adore The Last of Us and am extremely excited for the sequel . . . but when given the choice between a potentially great follow-up to a game that really didn't need one, versus a long-awaited original game from arguably the greatest mad genius in the industry, who has spent the last decade teasing a fantastic horror game only to have it snatched away by Konami and forcing him to regroup with what appears to be a completely bonkers mind-melter of a concept? Yeah, I'm gonna go with the latter every time. Besides, if they're pushing back a known quantity like The Last of Us: Part II, that's a damn good sign for the quality of this game.

Just gonna leave this here. Nic Refn (or at least his likeness) waxing philosophical on the beauty of twenty minute shorts.

I'm at the point now where I can't watch these. I want to just go in blind from here on out. But damned if Margaret Qualley wasn't tempting.

Where can I steal a PS4? I have no interest in the system outside of DS and LoU2, but they look sooooooo good.

So the reviews aren’t universally rapturous, but still generally good, as it currently stands at 84 on Metacritic. The pacing and story seem to be the real points of contention. And apparently this game is LONG. I’m talking playtimes of 40-50 hours. I saw some of Kinda Funny’s take on it, and Greg Miller admitted to rushing through the main story in time for the show, and it took even him 37 hours.
I have no idea what to expect, and I’m purposely keeping myself in the dark from here on, but I’m really excited, and fascinated, to see what’s gonna happen.

I can’t say I’m too surprised on the divisive response to this. From what I’ve heard and read, apparently a large chunk of this game (and I guess an even larger chunk of the gameplay) is walking from one place to another making deliveries? And it plays out more as a movie or better yet a tv series than a game since a lot of the focus is on the cutscenes. This game will for sure find it’s lovers and those who think it’s a masterpiece, but doesn’t really seem like a game for me based on some of the reactions.

Games like that are fine... but if it's also got a $60 pricetag, then it's never worth it.

Jim Sterling compared it to Red Dead Redemption 2’s emphasis on cumbersome detail and realism, and if that was the basis of an entire game. And I usually trust him, so that worries me.
I just picked the game up, so I’ll find out later on.

I’m probably four to five hours in and I’m loving it. The animation is among the best I’ve ever witnessed in a game — hell, maybe the best ever, it’s so detailed and the renderings are so spot-on it’s sometimes easy to forget that it’s not just live action. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, the soundtrack rocks, and, yeah, the weird ass world-building is the kind of shit I’m here for and it doesn’t disappoint in the slightest (even if it requires a lot of exposition). The pure cinematic quality to this game is unprecedented — the first hour to two is insanely cutscene heavy, but that’s not a complaint for me. The story is absurd and creative and full of imagination and I love it.
The gameplay obviously is very different and because of that it’s quite fun I think even if it can be frustrating. The focus on realism in the mechanics is impeccable and it makes for a really absorbing, at times almost visceral experience. And the fact that you can interact with items left by other players is such a unique feature (even if it kinda clutters the map at times). Chapter 2 which I’m in the midst of right now does get a bit more tedious ... not boring so much as repetitive ... and from what I’ve read it seems the story picks up again once you get out of this episode of the story.
Edit: Oh, yeah — my one complaint about this game is how fucking small the print on the screen is for control directions and whatnot. I have to walk right up to my TV screen just to read most of what’s on there...
