This is part of what turned me off from gaming. Micro-transactions have essentially made it so that people buy full games that are, in essence, incomplete because they need to continue spending money for core game elements that completely overhaul the experience. Why spend money on a game I already paid for?

Y'all remember when you could put in a cheat code if you wanted to shortcut your way through a game and mess around? Now you have to put in your credit card information. What bullshit.

I remember when games were sold as complete without added DLC (Which isn’t inherently evil, DLC can still be done right, but barring content that should have been there from the start behind a paywall is low). As if Battlefront 1’s laughable husk and how disappointing Mass Effect: Andromeda was wasn’t enough. By the way, EA just killed one of their studios recently. One that was making what looked like a sweet single-player Star Wars game (headed by Amy Hennig of Uncharted), and now that project’s been scrapped for a perhaps more focused-grouped multiplayer game “because that’s what the people want.” And this is only one instance of them being greedy and deliberately holding things to ransom. Fuck EA, fuck their shitty practices, and fuck this fucking trend of fucking loot boxes and fucking micro transactions fucking bleeding my fucking wallet when all I want fucking want is to fucking enjoy my fucking game! Motherfucker!

Apparently they dropped the prices of the heroes by 75%.
Then they also lowered the rate of earned credits by... 75%. lol. I'm almost certain this is something out of a really shitty made-for-Nickelodeon movie.

I just saw this on Reddit, and thought of this thread. EA announces plan for next gun controllerFor some reason, most video games gives me motion sickness, so I usually stick to online games like the ones that use to be popular at Facebook or at Pogo. Pogo is owned by EA though too, and they've gotten even greedier there. I would say 100% of the new games have in purchase buying options despite the fact that many members already pay a yearly subscription to get full access to the games there. I can understand that they want to make a profit, but it's just the way that they do the in purchase buying options that seems really shady to me. Like there was one game that was perfectly fine before, but then they added a pop up devil that takes away half of your coins or part of your time, but you can buy a special in game protection from the devil popping up. Or some members are obsessed about getting the badges there, so there's been a lot of emphasis on the newer games for weekly badges and other badges, and some people are so obsessed about the badges that they'll do anything for them including buying those in game purchases for the new games. Before the in game purchases, they already had options where people could use gems, which of course you have to purchase out of pocket aside from the few that you get for joining, to buy badges and special backgrounds, props, costumes, etc. for their avatars. I could understand that since it didn't seem like the games suffered by having the gems, but with the in game purchases, for me it feels like it hurts the site since I feel like they're purposefully tweaking as many games as they can to make people buy the in game purchases when the games were perfectly fine before.

I've had a lot of fun on POGO... but yeah. They ask for absurd money to play board games against a bunch of idiots who will likely drop out of the game before it finishes anyway (and be replaced by a bot).

There are dozens upon dozens, but I'll keep it to my favorites as far as EA memes go...

Holy shit, Belgium might be banning the game altogether because it might violate certain gambling restrictions.

You know what the sad thing is? That I actually had a ton of fun playing the beta of the game. Lootboxes And microtransactions were still an eyesore, but I had way more fun with the samples of this game, than I did the “full game” of the first Battlefront. But seeing this greed, how it impacts the performance by giving lucky dicks with dollars an unfair advantage, and EA continuing to taint the potential of what would otherwise be good games, I cannot in good conscience sign off on buying this, even for Star Wars.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I have to boycott it at this point.

That Metacritic score by the audience though. EDIT: That size is for ants. I don’t know how to fix it, my bad guys. 😂 It’s a 0.8 by almost 5000 people.

Got an email from Amazon about upcoming deals... and within a week, it seems Battlefront II will already be on sale.

I am BEYOND ecstatic that EA are finally being outed for their disgraceful, greedy business model. One of the worst companies period.

Okay, some updates in the last week. Belgian Gambling Commission has declared the Loot box system to be gambling, and the Minister of Justice is working on banning microtransactions within video games. Now the Dutch, Swedish, and Australian governments are also investigating, while Hawaii Representative Chris Lee has warned parents to be wary of their children forming gambling addictions.
And after word reached Disney, they were so pissed off and worried that the game would damage the brand, that EA has now halted the microtransactions indefinitely (though it’s still going to return), while they’re covering their tracks on other games that are using microtransactions.
And apparently switching off microtransactions isn’t supposed to hurt EA’s earnings whatsoever... so why fucking have them, you pilfering assholes?!
Not to say this will be enough to kill it, and you’ve also got people making stupid defenses for them, but good! Fuck the people trying to prey on the weaknesses and addictions of those they view as walking piggy banks.

At this point, what’s the over/under that Disney revokes EA’s license, builds a new gaming division or resurrects LucasArts, and starts making new Star Wars games in-house?

Because just boycotting one game doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, when the next Mass Effect or Dragon Age rolls along.
