I can't think of a better show currently on television.
That final shot... Horrifying.

Three episodes into the second season and I am so on board. I like more of the focus on McCallany, though I think Groff has improved and grown on me more since the first season. So intrigued to see where this goes from here. Filipowich was amazing.

Another excellent season. Not as tense or disturbing as the previous season but very engrossing and puts you on the edge of the seat. Bill's family subplot and Wendy's kinda deviated the tone although the former fits. The Atlanta stuff was so well directed. All the three directors did a great job. Hopefully the next season doesn't take another two years coz there's been two much teasing on BTK for two seasons and i want to see that ASAP. That last scene was creepy as hell.

seven episodes in and it's a marked improvement on Season 1. Will have more complete thoughts when I finish but like I predicted going by the trailer this season has been much more focused and streamlined though it took a few episodes to get going (premier was really rough but it got progressively better until episode 4 when things really kicked into gear). Loving the subplot involving Tench's kid.

Most of the Atlanta stuff in the later eps were the best stuff I think, and that's Carl Franklin. He directed the great One False Move back in '92. What do we all think of the cross-carrying scene? It's probably the most differently "stylized" scene in the whole season, grindhouse esque and disorienting, I'm mixed on it but it was definitely eerie and tense and unexpected. Was that Franklin's idea, or Fincher... hmm?

Finally finished Season 2 last night (would have finished it sooner cause I was hooked from the start but fucking work man!). Anyways this shit was aces all the way thru. Flat out LOVE this show. Perhaps not the most "enjoyable" show on tv (cause things get quite heavy thru out this show and I can understand how that would turn some folks off since it gets so depressing ) but it is truly fascinating look at serial killlers and how to understand their motives.

Not on the level of season one... but still pretty great.
I liked Groff in season 1, but making the legend Holt McCallany the true lead was obviously the right choice. Was kind of crazy how much of a backseat Holden's personal life took this season after the season opened with him chained up in a mental hospital, lol. But yeah... based Holt carried the hell out of this season. Loved the moment where Bill told Holden about what was going on with his son...
I also liked the stuff with Tench's son and Wendy's relationship (even though she should have been given something much more interesting to do).
But no one watches the show for that shit... all the Atlanta stuff was excellent, Kemper's appearance was the highlight of the season (and was unfair for the Manson interview to have to follow, lol), and of course the Junior scene that everyone loves was insanely good. And I dunno how anyone is meh on the BTK scenes... that shit freaks me out.
Really interested to see where they go with the next season... apparently Fincher wants 5 seasons... with season 5 you'd have to assume leading up to a certain event in 2005. Lots of (creepy) options! Also hope that Jim Barney joins the team at Quantico...

Sounds like no season 3. There's nothing worse than ending a show without a closure. It makes you appreciate the shows that were able to complete their full arc successfully even more.

We knew it was coming, but honestly, I'm fine with it ending where it is. The BTK capture would be so far in the future that it would be unlikely to ever be portrayed with the same characters/actors, and I think the show proved its thesis by having their profiling be effective in the Atlanta storyline (even if the racial elements of the case worked against them, and there is a possibility Wayne Williams didn't kill them all). There's no shortage of horrifying crimes they could portray historically, but honestly, I think Tench was nearing the end of his tenure with the Bureau due to his personal issues with Brian, and Groff's character didn't feel like he had much of a growth arc past where he'd already gone. I wouldn't mind another season, but I don't think we need it.

I guess that's it. That was the obvious reason. Netflix took one look at the numbers and said if you want to stay on then you we have to give you less money and Fincher didn't want to do that. In addition, it didn't help that it was ignored by the Emmys. I wouldn't mind seeing a wrap up movie. One of the things that is starting to annoy me about Netflix is that they have the power to offer shows closure and they choose not too. They need to be careful with that decision.

You got to be grateful they gave us two full seasons of this mastery.

I seriously doubt Fincher would say yes to a movie. I don't think Netflix here is the main problem. They possibly won't mind greenlighting a third season with less budget but Fincher is not that kind of director who would compromise his vision just to wrap things up plus he is exhausted. Hopefully he and Netflix will come to an agreement in five years time and continue from where they left but that's too much wishful thinking at this point.

a thing cancelled by the creator and not ratings whore Netflix, the twist of the century. "Dollars have to equal eyeballs" is a veeery Netflix thing to say but it also just sounds like Fincher's tired. I'm sure Mank was exhausting. Dude needs a break.
Wasn't a huge fan of this thing but am very disappointed it's ending. Another one bites the dust in an increasingly sparse TV landscape. Too many good shows ending, not enough good ones beginning.

I'd love for them to come back in 3-4 years and continue the series. It sounded like Fincher needed a break right now. I'm still holding out hope.

Very late to the party on this one but binged through both seasons over the last couple of weeks. Obviously great stuff, not much to add from what’s already been said in the thread, some very tough subject matter throughout but so compelling at the same time. Took me a while to warm up to Geoff but he ended up growing on me as the series went along. McCallany was great throughout but really shined in season 2. Cameron Britton clearly deserves all the praise that’s been heaped upon him. Really hope Fincher eventually moves forward with another season, even if it’s after a few more years break.

I seriously hope this pans out. I lost American Vandal after two seasons, then it seemed like I was losing this too. At least the A grade Netflix drama has life in it yet.
