I keep forgetting this is an actual thing lol. Cooper's director debut starring him & Lady Gaga. I've been pretty outspoken in the past about finding Cooper's acting to be quite insufferable (how this dbag has 3 Oscar noms is beyond me ). He comes across as such a try hard douche (just look at him with the guitar ) Needless to say, I have my doubts about this film.

I'm expecting it to be a dud. I still don't buy Gaga as an actress, and Cooper directing sounds potentially disastrous. Will see, I suppose.

Why does everyone here hate Bradley Cooper? I must be like the only one here who thought all 3 of his acting noms were well deserved.

The film won't be a dud because of any of the reasons that are usually in play, rather its the fact that the story belongs to a different era and you can't do it, even as a period piece where it would play as corny. The story is antiquated and belongs to a different type of stardom, you just can't make it in 2017 it's time has left, it's dated material in the worst possible way.

Cooper can be very good with the right material, but this being his directorial debut (and such a large-scale one at that) doesn't inspire much confidence, and most of the time I find Gaga to be self-conscious and theatrical in a really forced, off-putting way, which is perfectly fine when she's making Top 40 pop music and wearing meat dresses but comes across as tone-deaf and fake when she tries to play it serious, like her 2016 Oscar performance or her GG speech. I'm not terribly confident that Cooper will be able to rein her in and keep her from going over-the-top for effect.
Plus, like pacinoyes said, it's not the type of material that really lends itself to a present-day retelling.

Oh honey, could this be Gaga's Glitter?
OK, I'll admit it, that was totally unnecessarily mean.
OMG! Is that f**king product placement in the background?!!!

I think it will be fairly terrible, but at the same time, we all seem to have such low expectations for this that I'm thinking they can't actually be met.

Oh my god, are those real screenshots? There's no way this isn't going to be a disaster. This was being planned for a while with Beyonce and Tom Cruise and while that also had some disaster potential, it was at least intriguing.

This sounds stupid! Nothing’ll ever come of it, and it’ll kill people’s careers. Take that to the bank!

I’m the minority about this movie. Strong performances overall, but it peaks 45 minutes in for me. The melodrama starts to lose me along with the lack of agency Gaga has in her own story. I don’t know what is about Cooper, but his taste in projects don’t really interest me and seem so milquetoast.

I don't think it's good to have preconceived notions going into a film, but it turns out you were right to have such apprehension, jake. Terrible film. It's been a year and there's still a bad taste in my mouth.

haha. Hey, Michael. And I loved A Star is Born. lol hey. How’s it been I loved it too. You’re probably gonna think I’m just saying this, but I really would have liked to see the Beyoncé/Clint Eastwood version. Would have been interesting to see what shape it took on. And she hasn’t really acted in a movie in so long. I want to see if she’s gotten better lmao. There was a trailer for their on the run tour a few years ago where she delivered some lines not too embarrassingly.

It's been a year and there's still a bad taste in my mouth. Yeah I mean, it was a massive box office hit for sure which I was dead wrong about but Cooper's laughable Sam Elliot impression was so cringeworthy (I am still baffled to this day as to why the Academy keeps giving that try hard so many acting noms ). Gaga surprised me but overall I didn't enjoy/like this film at all.

I don’t know what is about Cooper, but his taste in projects don’t really interest me and seem so milquetoast. Agreed. It starts out interesting enough and that Matthew Libatique sure knows how to point a camera, but it begins to bleed pretty badly around the halfway mark and by the time we get to the ending Cooper has ditched everything that made the film compelling in the first place to completely sideline his co-star and give himself a non-stop succession of hollow, unearned Oscar clips. I generally dislike the term vanity project, but it's hard to argue that it isn't an apt description in this case. I wasn't expecting much from Gaga (oops), but she carried this entire film on her back, both with her performance and with her songs. Too bad she's reduced to a supportive wife trope so early on.

Well I predicted it would be terrible, so I was wrong on that front. It was just borderline bad.

The worst part of the whole film for me was when he cut flashback moments involving himself into the final number. That was a real low point and peak vanity on his part.
