The hall of fame is bullshit.

I know these are just nominees, but at least half of those have no business whatsoever being there.

The Hall of Fame is a joke, but Radiohead, Kate Bush, and The Zombies are the ones from the list that I have strong positive feelings about.

2021 nominees: Obviously The NY Dolls are the class of this list since there's like maybe 7 or 8 American bands that were ever as good as them. Maybe less...... The nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2021 are in and the list features Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, Mary J. Blige, Iron Maiden, Tina Turner, the Go-Go’s, Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, Devo, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren, and Dionne Warwick. The top vote-getters will be announced in May and inducted in a Cleveland, Ohio, ceremony in the fall.

Some of the these people are not "rock and roll" even in the broadest possible definition of the term.

Still too good for this shit hole the NY Dolls .......sigh.........also maybe Dave Grohl can get Husker Du in too www.nytimes.com/2021/05/12/arts/music/rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame.html

I absolutely hate that they backdoored Kraftwerk and LL Cool J like that. They should've just done as sports halls do and make them performer inductees from a special committee instead of cramming them into categories that they don't really fit.
Also very bummed that Iron Maiden and the NY Dolls missed out.

2022 Nominees Announced:
Eminem Duran Duran Kate Bush MC5 Judas Priest Lionel Richie Dolly Parton Carly Simon Eurythmics Devo Rage Against the Machine Dionne Warwick Fela Kuti Beck A Tribe Called Quest New York Dolls Pat Benatar
The hall is a sham, especially after what they did with LL Cool J and Kraftwerk last year, but these are all names that should already be inducted. Richie should be a 2-time inductee with Commodores, who've never been nominated. Fela Kuti is outside enough that he can fit the Musical Excellence category, even though I hate the idea of nominating someone as a performer and then placing them into a different category. Beck should've been in his first year eligible. Pulling for Judas Priest, as the hall has a major metal problem.

I love the MC5 but .........um..........there are arguably - VERY arguably 10 American Rock bands - at most - as good, important or relevant (still) as the NY Dolls off of 2 albums (I don't count their reunion stuff)....more like maybe 5 or 6 bands on their level tbh ........every year it's the same old sh it - I posted in this thread for them last year (just like 8 months ago, wtf) - and they just miss. End it already and put them in for Fncksake.......

End it already and put them in for Fncksake....... Yeah, I think this is a persistent feeling for a lot of Rock Hall watchers. It gets to a point where it's just exhausting. For a concept as expansive as rock and roll (especially how the hall defines it) boiling it down to 5-7 performer inductees a year will never get it done. It's frustrating to see MC5 and New York Dolls, who both should've been in 25 years ago, get nominated again and again only to know the outcome will be that at best they'll probably just get brushed in through some committee side category. Foo Fighters are worthy of their induction in my opinion, but what was the rush to get them in the first year they're eligible when it took Black Sabbath 8 tries over 10 years? If the MC5 and NY Dolls are having this much trouble to get in, what chances do Black Flag, Bad Brains, or the Replacements have? The likes of Joy Division, Husker Du, & Pixies have never even been nominated. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

That list isn't too terrible. Kate Bush and A Tribe Called Quest (sad because in their depressing documentary Q-Tip said he and Pfife would probably perform again only for this and now Pfife's gone).

How are Kate Bush and Beck not already in?
Kind of respect the Dolly Parton thing to be honest. Calling her "rock and roll" seems a big stretch although that is the case for many people already in.

Eminem with his classic pacinoyes song if I leave MAR......um..... Judas Priest was also inducted in the Musical Excellence category, which essentially means "by special committee." I'm happy that they're in overall, and the ME category is just vague enough for it not to bother me unlike Kraftwerk getting in as an "Early Influence" last year. But it is disappointing that heavy metal acts can't seem to get in unless they're by special committee. It points to a larger issue that the hall's voters are prejudiced against the genre. The acts inducted this year feels very "MTV." Lots of '80s acts (a decade they've been trying to catch up on) with a scattering of '70s leftovers and a '90s act. The likes of Beck, RATM, etc. will probably just have to wait a few more years till the hall is finally able to catch up (they never will, btw - their definition of Rock and Roll is so broad that it just creates an even bigger backlog). Bummer on the MC5 or New York Dolls. Like with Metal, Punk just doesn't seem to get the respect it deserves, but I'm glad they didn't get in as Influences like other hall watchers have been saying. It's too much of a cop-out and that category is better served for the likes of the uninducted Carter Family, as an example.

Also, how very "Rock and Roll" to induct a lawyer in Allen Grubman. Ugh

They put in every female who ever sold ANYTHING - tough break Kate Bush - should have sold more you hack! 30 weeks on the chart now got as high as number 3 - number 4 ths week - the rest of the top 5 is made up of Beyonce, Lizzo, Harry Styles, Future Um This is the greatest thing in the history of stuff right? Between the latest season debut of Stranger Things on May 27 and the end of June, Bush earned an estimated $2.3 million in streaming royalties, Luminate, an independent company that provides data for Billboard’s charts, told Fortune, and Quartz originally reported.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an organization that grows less interesting each year, but for whatever reason it fascinates me and I can't help but be slightly invested in each year's nominees/inductees.
Anyway, the 2023 Nominees are:
Cyndi Lauper George Michael Sheryl Crow Willie Nelson Warren Zevon Missy Elliott Joy Division/New Order The White Stripes A Tribe Called Quest Iron Maiden Soundgarden Kate Bush The Spinners Rage Against the Machine
I'll add that this is a good group of names and its including my two biggest snubs in Joy Division/New Order and Iron Maiden. I would've preferred JD and NO to be presented separately, as unlike Parliament/Funkadelic they have a clear end point and start point, but whatever.

Anyway, the 2023 Nominees are: Cyndi Lauper Joy Division/New Order The White Stripes * The White Stripes are on some level the last Great Rock Band even though to me they only made 2 great records (Elephant and especially White Blood Cells) - I mean I don't think that........... I like plenty of bands after them and more than them too ......but at their level of success and at their best artistry being in the pattern of "Rock and Blues"............ they differ even in how you think of them as The Strokes and Spoon............... They are so in. * Cyndi Lauper will get in - eventually - because all women get in - Joan Jett is in ffs and I like her and all but she can't write or play guitar that well, Pat Benatar is in ffs- every "big selling" female act is in except Courtney Love.........um..........well and The Bangles........meanwhile I'm the only one who would put The Pandoras in for "Stop Pretending" ftw * Joy Division is of course one of the most important - and best - Rock bands ever.......and certainly of their era ........and while for New Order I'm not THAT much of a fan, I really don't understand how the Small Faces / Faces combo (love 'em) got in and you leave JD / NO out in terms of originality, influence, cultural legacy in this specific configuration.......obviously in.......or should be ........
