Really great to see her and Holland in this. I just hope that it isn't defanged King.

I concur. I like how there's two King alum in it with Spacek and Skarsgard.

Cast is awesome. Glad to see Andre Holland appears to have a good sized role. Yup! So glad he's balancing the big and small screen because I miss having a weekly dose of Holland.

Watched the first two episodes... great atmosphere but it's mainly been a lot of set-up so far. There's a lot going on and pretty much all of it is intriguing...

"The Queen," the most recent episode of Castle Rock (a strong if somewhat formless show based on the collective works of Stephen King), feels like it was ghostwritten by the creators of The Leftovers (and not just because of Scott Glenn's involvement). And Sissy Spacek proves she is one of the greatest actresses alive by carrying this particular episode on her shoulders. I don't want to give away too much, but look: if she misses out on an Emmy nomination, it will be the worst robbery for a single episode I've seen in a decade.

The episode, and Spacek in particular, just destroyed me. She has such amazing presence and I love that there was a whole episode dedicated to her character. She's killing it on the show.

Did anyone else finish this? This had the hookiest premise and cast of any show this year but lord, I've never seen anything quite so squandered or felt as bored and unfulfilled after 10 episodes... of nothing. The writing was godawful, most of the actors were wasted (Sissy Spacek and Bill Skarsgård were the few to make an impression) and it felt like the show never ever took off and then it ended, badly paced and plotted, it was such a chore.
This year, with Castle Rock and season 2 Westworld, what an incompetent storyteller J.J. Abrahams is (let's not even get started on Lost and The Force Awakens), he's a businessman/advertiser who uses mystery boxes (but no clue on how to actually solve them or create a compelling mystery on its own) and time travel as a crutch. Unless the entire creative team is fired, chances are good I won't check in for season 2.

I kind of like Caplan but doesn't strike me as Annie Wilkes.

After seeing The Sinner S2, my friend joked that if they remade Misery, Carrie Coon should play the Kathy Bates role. And um, I wouldn't've minded. So they missed their chance! But I like Caplan too. Noting I haven't seen any of Castle Rock yet.....

I was just thinking about this show last night! Looks very promising. Had no ideas Barkhad Abdi and Elsie Fisher were involved, very cool.

I'm 6eps into S1. Not really a horror as I hoped it'd be but as a dark small-town picture and mystery... quite engaging and surprising. Actually the first 5 eps are well written - there's a lot of details and buried secretive sides to characters. Ep4 has multiple standout scenes (a knockout ending sequence), and Clap Hands by Tom Waits, cmon!
But....Ep6 I felt the legs wobble underneath the show, a few important scenes botched.
Cast: a career-best Scott Glenn, where'd that come from? Noel Fisher as the prison guard stood out. Andre Holland and spooky Skarsgard are pretty good. Jane Levy's nag character should've been nixed. Melanie Lynskey is worst in cast - a fascinating character that she makes dull and annoying, gotta add: casting Allison Tolman as her sister is spot on. Spacek - haven't got to her big ep yet, still she's wonderful and shaded, two great little moments in the hospital bed and the fish-gutting scene.

And yeah, Glenn is top-notch.

Finished! Spacek is indeed great in Ep7 - stuck in a psychological vortex, it's pretty demanding and impressively on her shoulders.
So Ep6 remains the weak spot. Ep8 isn't necessary but mostly an interesting bloody sidebar, Ep9 is a very curious shocker, Ep10 troubles the twists and ends everything on a quiet, eerie note. A lot of threads aren't answered, but I'd rather that than, say, going overboard or trying to tie together every little emotional line like the Hill House series. Overall. 7 or higher, enjoyed it very much.
As for S2...... I wonder if it's a totally new story or if they'll trickle in elements from S1.....?
also Lizzy Caplan - she does a lot of TV work! love her in Party Down, she's great (MVP) in Masters of Sex, etc....

Did anyone watch season 2? I watched three episodes when it was airing and lost interest. I've been slowly getting back into it and episode 5 The Laughing Place was pretty much stellar -- Ruby Cruz was incredible as young Annie and that casting was freakishly spot on. Unfortunately I don't care about the Robbins/Sparks/Abdi stuff at all, meanwhile Sarah Gadon is slaying it in the Wilkes subplot.
