"You mean with Leto starring? Because 2 hours of that qualifies as a crime against humanity."
*reads article*
"Oh, now there's a chance it'll be good."

Todd Phillips is completely wrong. As a cowriter, fine. But directing this, really? If I were Warner Bros/DC ~ and they want "gritty" ~ I'd go with an unexpected pick like the Safdies. And hell, they're working with Scorsese at the moment too so that would align.

The only way this could possibly work is if it plays as a multiple-choice Rashomon dark comedy, which ends each chapter with a punchline the whole thing has been building towards Wild Tales style.
But of course that won't happen. Instead, they'll make a "dark, gritty" reboot with the Joker played by a digitally de-aged Joe Pesci that millions will be spent on and will be hated by everyone.
Edit: Come to think of it, my current signature would make a great Joker origin story. I ought to bring this to WB, I could make a fortune.

So if Leto isn't playing the Joker, is it still set in the DCEU?
EDIT: Just read through the article, looks like it will be its own separate thing.

Apparently they forgot that a large part of what made the Joker in The Dark Knight so effective was the lack of an origin story.

Yeah, no. Villains rarely ever get better with more screentime.

Yeah, coming from a massive Joker fan, this is not a good idea .

The Joker is my favorite character in comics history, so as a huge fan let me just say that this is THE WORST IDEA I'VE EVER HEARD IN THE HISTORY OF SUPERHERO CINEMA.

I don't think that we need this. The Prince of crime doesn't need an origin story.

I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that Scorsese is producing a superhero film.

BvS was 2nd movie in DCEU and yet they continued. 3 months to JL, 5th movie in DCEU and they just went 'oh maybe we do this...'.
Just how bad is this trashfire?

Just a question: is WB trying to make a DC Villains trilogy with this and Gotham City Sirens?

Just a question: is WB trying to make a DC Villains trilogy with this and Gotham City Sirens? I don't know if they really know what they are doing. It seems they are just throwing stuff at a wall and seeing if it sticks

I think I'm a bit more optimistic about this than everyone else. It sounds like it could be ok.

At this point I'm just willing to dismiss Warner Bros. as clueless.

I'm beginning to think that this is the office of WB:
EDIT: Removed because it probably violates the NSFW code of our host website. It was the office party scene from The Wolf of Wall Street.
