Elizabeth Debicki seems to have nailed Diana's voice and mannerisms, and there really is a strong physical resemblance. This season looks fascinating.

Currently sitting at 62% on RT I have a feeling that this is in large part due to the controversy rather than the actual quality of the season ... season 3 was mostly boring as fuck but it still had 90% on RT so

saw from the credits that May el-Toukhy directed a couple of the eps this season! Her film Queen of Hearts was one of the best of 2019. Love when prestige shows extend olive branches to auteurs and give them a tad more exposure to a wider audience. HBO did the same with Deniz Gamze Ergüven on Perry Mason. Love to see it.

I'm 4 episodes into season 5. Its decent so far. I like the Mou Mou episode which is focused entirely on a different character that's not from the royal family.

Episode 9. That's the one. A great episode, but with 4 seasons of build behind it, it's even better.

Episode 9. That's the one. A great episode, but with 4 seasons of build behind it, it's even better. Corrin, Debicki, or Stewart? I think Corrin was far (far, far, far, far, far) more natural than Debicki and Stewart, and the two of them are so mannered I sometimes could only laugh at what they were doing, and I did greatly appreciate that. That said, I hated a lot of the choices Corrin was making, whether you want to put the blame on director or performer, and I think Debicki (for all of the stupid shit she's doing with her face) is way better, way more interesting, capturing far more. I don't think that can all be to the writers credit either, she's just bringing much more to it.

ibbi - Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Curious as to how you also like Staunton, Pryce, and Manville in their newly inherited roles?

ibbi - Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Curious as to how you also like Staunton, Pryce, and Manville in their newly inherited roles? All good. None seem to have that much to do compared to the previous holders of the roles, but really liked them all. Staunton most of all. Not much in the way of big scenes, but she's doing that same thing Foy did, writing novels on her face on more than a time or two. She and Pryce are really good together also. That was one thing I never really got from Menzies and 2018 Academy Award winner Colman.

Staunton was incredible in the 6th episode. Liking Pryce very much so far. 4 episodes to go.

I still think "Aberfan" is the greatest ever episode. For sure is up there. One of the ones which is ridiculously dramatic and well made, tied in to the central concept of the show, and not thematically repeating itself, which most of the best episodes are after season 1.

Doesn't have the highs and lows of the previous two seasons and goes more on a steadfast manner. Still an engrossing season altogether with some really memorable moments. And as always handsomely mounted and neatly performed.
Staunton was pretty good, but she had less scope to perform than the previous two actresses who donned the role. Took me some time to adjust to Debicki's antics but i liked her overall performance.

four eps in... we've got Prince Philip gallivanting around in a carriage for 40 mins before showing up at Diana's to angrily tell her to stay in her lane, and we've got the Queen demanding that her government in recession cover the cost of her yacht repairs and preaching to her unhappy kids about marriage and god while seemingly having nothing to do but sit in her palace and worry about the evils of divorce. Just when you forget how much you hate these people, The Crown comes back around to remind you. awful so far. Hopefully it picks up. The increased focus on family melodrama goes a long way towards showing how irrelevant Elizabeth had become by the 90s.

Staunton is much better than Colman but still so unlikable. West and Debicki are the highlights so far. Debicki seems to be a bit weaker than Corrin but also Diana's been mostly sidelined this season so far so it's hard to gauge. K-Stew reigns supreme.
