Goddamn, that was a punch in the gut.
EDIT: Side-note, but I would've watched the hell out of a Boss Tweed series.

That was goddamn fantastic.
I hadn't watched this show in years and yet was immediately enveloped back into its world and characters. Feels a bit slow towards the beginning, but holy hell, this thing as a whole is just thrilling, moving, and, of course, often hilarious. Milch & co. absolutely delivered with an incredibly cathartic and long-awaited swan song, impressively juggling the huge ensemble in just under two hours and managing an appropriate conclusion and ample screen-time for just about all of them. The cast are in top form as if they never left set ... McShane delivers a heartbreaking performance of a lifetime, Malcolmson kills it every time she's on-screen, Sanderson is a treat as always, Dayton Callie will bring a tear to any eye ... I could go on. It's about time Deadwood got a proper finale, and it couldn't ask for a better one; one that's not afraid to confront the cruel passage of time, and does in a perfectly bittersweet way.

Ouuuuuuuutstanding stuff. Agree with DeepArcher that it started off a little slow (though even if it was slow, just being with these characters again was enough)... but once Charlie Utter gets murdered (RIP legend) it's pretty much non-stop greatness. So many beautiful moments, so many badass moments... and goddammit I was tearing up when it was over. Covered a lot of ground while not feeling like it was trying to jam too much into a 2 hour movie as well... Was hoping they'd re-write history and kill the murdering cunt Hearst, but getting the shit kicked out of him worked well enough. And unsurprisingly the cast was excellent. McShane playing Swearengen like we've never seen him before (those kidney stones or whatever in season 2 were nothin), Olyphant much looser than he was for the majority of the series with many great moments here, and Malcomson was arguably MVP. Of course we should've gotten another 36 hours or so of Deadwood, but somehow Milch made that fact much less bittersweet in under 2 hours. Good shit, legend.

I liked it, I didn't love it.
I must say though, this made me like Bullock more than I ever did during the show.

"Let him . . . fuckin' stay there."
The language feels far weightier here than it did in the days of old; every marbled word and turn of fuckin’ phrase boasts the tenor of Mr. Shakespeare at his cocksucking best. Though it must be said—some of the actors in this piece feel more linguistically suited to Milch’s frequency than others. Which is my way of sayin': Emmys for McShane, McRaney and Malcomson. NOW.

over the past month I finally got caught up and watched the show. watched the movie this morning, with a proper conclusion this thing front to back is a goddamn masterpiece. These characters are gruff yet tender and it was a beauty to behold. Heave-cried during the final moments.
