The Crown: "Act of God" -- Best episode yet. Fantastic television, save for that cringeworthy exposition scene with Mary explaining how the "Queen" title works. Yeah that was a great episode, and the turning point for the show as it went from decent to something great. Later episodes in the season, particularly the penultimate one, are truly enthralling.

Anyone here saw Big Little Lies yet? About to watch it The cast intrigues me (anything with Kidman has my attention), but the storyline looks kinda trashy. I might watch it if more recommendations come in.

Veep season 5 - "Mother". Goddamn, Julia Louis Dreyfus has got to be the best comedic actress of all-time. Terrific season so far, shaping up to be the best yet.

Big Little Lies: Pilot "Somebody's Dead"
Having read the book, I'm so on board for this. Really funny and a great cast. I want to binge this now!

Witherspoon's performance in the first episode of Big Little Lies might be my fave thing she's done since Election. Didn't love the first episode but it has potential.

Pilot episode of The Americans and Big Little Lies.
The former is so much fun. I loved how it handled the political topic without being too heavy and keeping it entertaining as well. I hope it continues. And can I say how fucking sizzling the lead couple is? Like, 🔥 🔥 🔥.
Big Little Lies is promising. Pretty nice first episode which just focused on introducing us to the characters and giving the vague description of the 'murder' such that the interest is created. Amazing cast. Witherspoon is on fire here and her emotional moment with her daughter is one of her best acted scenes in her career. The other two seem to have more interesting character I suppose. We'll see. But so far, pretty good.

A Clear and Present Danger - a 1970 pilot movie for the miniseries "The Bold Ones: the Senator" starring Hal Holbrook as a Senatorial candidate who risks his reputation to take on the issue of severe smog in L.A. It's a vivid portrait of an issue that has been largely forgotten, and is politically savvy in a way that is mostly understated (aside from some melodramatic scenes of groups of people suffering from breathing troubles in hospitals).

Finished the first season of The Crown, blown away by it tbh; historical dramas don't come much better than this. The acting is first-rate (Foy, Lithgow and Smith in particular are dynamite), the writing is sheer genius and for a show that demands the audience' attention due to the largely methodical pacing, it really needed to be. Never a dull moment, suspense ratcheted up tenfold and fantastic dialogue. Production design, costumes and some truly consummate cinematography just round off a supremely crafted package. Cannot wait for S02.
5/5 10/10 100/100

Watched the entirety of TWIN PEAKS in the last several days. Definitely a great show which unfortunately has several filler episodes that are very mediocre. The first season is amazing, and so is the first half of S2. Fantastic stuff, solid gold. Then, right in the middle of S2, a certain big thing happens and the show goes into autopilot mode for several episodes after that. Cooper somehow becomes a bit of a secondary player and the screentime is filled with pretty inconsequential stuff (for instance, James riding off and meeting that woman has nothing to do with anything at all, just a waste of time), but then it all kind of picks up towards the end, with the last episode being a proper return to form. I kinda understand why it got cancelled back in the day, but goddamn they ended on a high note. And apart from those several episodes from the second half of S2, the rest of the show is absolutely brilliant. CANNOT wait for the return of Twin Peaks.

First 3 episodes of The People vs. O.J. Simpson
It's really good but can we please stop with the Kardashian kids?

I watched the Big Little Lies premiere. Pretty good stuff so far. The structure is neat, and the mystery is well-done (interesting choice to not reveal the victim yet, and make that part of the mystery as well) and definitely has me hooked. Reese Witherspoon is absolutely killing it, and I actually think Shailene Woodley is pretty great too.

Kidman wasn't given a ton to work with in the first episode. She's good, though I'm not sure if she's trying to do an American accent or not, and that inconsistency is kind of annoying. I hope her character gets more development in the next episode, because she's the only one of the main characters that hasn't been properly fleshed-out yet.

Big Little Lies premiere. Pretty decent first episode. It's definitely melodramatic and a little trashy in that beach-read kind of way, but Vallee's direction elevates some of the weaker script elements and makes the show feel more dynamic and sharp. Witherspoon is knocking it out of the park, and Woodley is her usual great self. Kidman is really good, but wasn't given as much to do in this first episode. Hopefully this changes as the story continues. I'm quite gripped by the mystery, especially since we not only don't know the killer, but the victim. I'm in.

Re-watch of Fargo 2x6. Only confirmed with me that it's one of the best episodes of the series so far.

The Crown: "Scientia Potentia Est" -- I'm not sure how good she is in the last three episodes, but this feels like Emmy submission material for Foy.

It's definitely melodramatic and a little trashy in that beach-read kind of way The melodrama is sort of the point, though. It's really quite satirical. I think that's definitely true in some scenes, like with all the parent interviews that are just pure gossip sessions, or the coffee store scene. However, in others I think it's taking itself pretty seriously, and that's when it feels melodramatic in a less good way.
