This looks really good but major plothole: Dumbledore never taught DADA, he taught transfiguration.

That's a lovely trailer. Confused with Dumbledore teaching DADA but it reminded of Lupi's Riddikkulus class in Prisoner of Azkaban, so that's good. Also there's the Mirror of Erised and Nicholas Flamel.
Super excited.

those CGI evil cats were soooo bad. Why can't these movies get creature design right? I've never been a fan of the HP universe and I wasn't crazy about the first Fantastic Beasts, but I'll probably check out the screener if it gets good reviews. Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston are cute together.

Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston are cute together. They were my least favorite thing about the first movie.

Man, it looks quite good. The plot seems generic, but it could be fun. Too bad they had to recast Colin Farrell with Johnny Hack.

At this point I just want this entire spin-off series to go fuck itself, tbh.

Looks good, and better then the first. Jude Law as Dumbledore is proving to be ingenious casting.

Fuck no. She retcons her own stuff with asinine explanations all the time.

57% on RT. Please replace David Yates man. Hope she or the producers comes up with an inspiring choice à la Alfonso Cuaron for the third film.

Yeah, the reviews have been brutal. I will say I think J.K. Rowling as a screenwriter is as much of a problem as Yates, is not more so. Rowling should remain executive producer and some kind of story editor but hire better screenwriters. Yates needs to go too.

Oh boy. Apparently some of the biggest criticisms toward this movie is regarding the screenplay by J.K. Rowling and too many subplots to follow. I'm planning to re-watch the first movie this week before I eventually go watch this sequel.

57% on RT. Please replace David Yates man. Hope she or the producers comes up with an inspiring choice à la Alfonso Cuaron for the third film. Eh, I don't think Yates is the problem. He's no Cuarón, of course, but his installments are usually pretty good, and even with this one it seems that the writing is what's being blamed, not his direction. As someone who grew up reading the original books and thought the first Fantastic Beasts was all right (though I legitimately can't remember a single shred of the latter's plot), the clear issue to me is that this new series has no real narrative purpose behind it and serves only to squeeze more money out of a franchise WB knows they can't reboot (not yet, at least). And now that they don't have the nostalgia angle to milk ("brand new, never-before-seen adventures in the Potterverse, yay!"), that weakness becomes a lot more evident, especially since (judging from these reviews) Rowling is juggling too many narrative strands at once, all in an attempt to set up a new franchise that was calculated to have almost as many installments as the original one even though it has none of the meat or scope. Depp being one of the leads and Rowling's endless retconning/Twitter begging for woke points only makes this an even sadder path for the series to follow, but what can you do.

Yates is not a bad director by means but i just want to see some variety from this franchise. Remember how Cuaron changed things and set a new benchmark for rest? that's what i'm hoping for.
