I've seen a lot of petitions, but they had to know how much backlash they'd receive for this and they kind of seem set in stone.

Yeah, it seems like too big of a decision for them to back out of. The smiley thing was minor shit, but this is massive.

They probably... but I like being able to put pictures in the post and no censorship.

I don't think they will change their minds. They have over 250 million visitors a month and over 10 million people who comment on their Facebook page. Their statement said far too few members post on the forums, but because they know there's a small passionate base they decided to give us nearly 3 weeks to prepare.

They have access to data that we'll never see, so maybe it is true that most of they users don't really use the boards regularly and it was no longer cost effective to maintain them. Still, if that's the case, you'd think they could at least make an effort to streamline the boards, maybe remove some of the non-movie related ones (politics, soapbox, etc.).

I doubt it. There's probably a lot more space unused than used from message boards on the website. Sure, Movie Awards is active, but imagine every film, actor, etc. Like someone else said, they gave us time to get our shit together.

Why not just keep the main message boards active (MA...Politics etc etc) and close all the ones for specific actors and movies?

I'm already beginning to like this site a whole lot more than IMDB's shitty outdated layout.

I hope so, but at the same time I'm not optimistic.

The only reason I ever went to IMDB was for the messageboards. This is a dumb decision for them to make.

That's likely true. Oh, well. I never signed up with IMDB cause they asked for credit card/phone. I do feel sorry for long-time posters, especially from Awards because IMDB couldn't even wait for the Oscars to roll over and then close the site. Just sad.

Those Sons Of Bitches didn't even wait for the Oscars to roll. Those quarks.

I thought they definitely would've, but I'm not so sure anymore. I actually like this site just as much, if not better, than the IMDb boards though. It's set up quite nice. Just sucks that new people won't be able to come.

Doubt it, Amazon could care less about the message boards.

Hell to the no. A very calculated decision on their part. The Awards Board is one of the most activity board on IMDB so they knew we wanted to talk about the Oscars and they choose not to give us that option.

I doubt it, and if everyone who I like from MA comes here then I can't say I'll be sorry. Other than rating films, the board was really my only reason for going to IMDb.

0 chance they reverse their decision. They were perfectly aware they'd have some backlash over it. They don't care though. It hurts their image when people keep spamming stupidities on the boards, throwing out spoilers, etc.
