For me, season 1 is a 9/10 and season 2 is a strong 8/10.

Is it even possible to prefer the second season?

Season 1 is obviously the right choice, but I do want to say that Season 2 is not nearly as bad as its reputation suggests. I think its biggest problem is that it was a story in need of a multi-season format like The Shield, and it was far too sprawling to be tidily resolved in eight episodes. It needed some serious plot- and character-culling (i.e. Farrell and Kitsch really should've been folded into one character, and even though Vince Vaughn had the most interesting subplot, it felt far too removed from the primary story). But I think it's solidly acted and shot. It's certainly miles better than the current season of Fargo, in any case.

I really don't think 2 was terrible or anything, but it wasn't much above ok.

S1 by far, even though it's overrated as fuck.

1 but those who just use that to wrongly beat up on season 2 are boring as fnck to me and like pointing out penetrating looks into the obvious. I totally get it, season 1 is the standard, season 2 doesn't measure up, the end, let's go watch Dunkirk now or something. Shrug. But you missed out on a bunch of great stuff imo by that POV and I think you learn more if you look at that great stuff. Season 2 has Ray's New York Dolls binge-descent, a stupendous whose shooting at who ballet of bullets, periodic great Frank moments mixed in with awful stuff from Vince Vaughan (his fantastic Khe Sanh motherfu----!), and what it especially had a was a GREAT final episode that yeah might have been to little to justify all that had gone before it but you can't just say that episode sucked because you stopped caring in episode 4. That was tragic, hopeful, 2 memorable character send offs...........love that episode. So, 1 is the best and I love it completely but 2 was on to something to in its own way and with some judicious editing and refining and scaling we'd all feel much better about the end result and I wouldn't have to write posts like this

Season One but I also dig Season Two as well and like stephen mentioned, S2 easily could have used some more episodes because it felt rushed/crammed together in only 8 episodes. Didn't do it justice. There were many things I dig about season 2 (Colin Farrell being the main reason , McAdam's performance too and the mansion scene was aces)
Just glad we are getting a season 3 some time in the future! can't freaking wait

s1 but s2 is severally underrated. The shootout in the street and the orgy episodes are absolutely mesmerizing as is McAdams' performance
