"Do I even have to say it?" I felt that No matter how tired of it you are - it's that rare kind of life-changing, capital-G Great movie... My #2 of it's year though; behind the one with singing lions.

My #2 of it's year though; behind the one with singing lions. I wasn't really tired of it, I was just laughing because of the predictable tidal wave it got in all major categories. Wait, did it sweep everything it was nominated for? I've gotta check that.

3rd straight AMARA's where my #1 of the year wins Best Picture! If only the dumbass Oscars would EVER gift me with a streak like that. Shit, can't think of a single time in Oscars history where my #1 has even won 2 years in a row. 🤦♂️

Not exactly thrilled by those acting winners other than Jacob, I mean I love Jackson but can't ever go with him over Landau. Of course swap Jackson over as the lead winner and Landau the supporting winner, and you improve the whole set.

Pretty solid enough wins overall. Liked the Jacob win, figured it was likely going to go to Portman. Ties just might be my #1 ick; would rescind my votes that were made for Shawshank & Priscilla if it were possible.

Portman was out of the running, though - dead last with one vote. Fiorentino was the runner-up (5 votes to Jacob's 6), with Winslet behind her at 4. Everybody else had 2 votes.

Forgot that Fiorentino's has a bigger fan club here than most place. For the ties, I think one way to get rid of them without having to change anything is to go back to everyone's nomination ballots to break it. See how many #1 votes were put on Lion King vs. Shawshank, if that's a tie compare the #2's, etc etc etc. You can also do the preferential ballot thing with everyone's ballot until one of the two is eliminated: would determine who had more passion overall for either.

I won't implement it immediately, but I'll calculate your nomination idea for this next one to see where that leaves us. I haven't deleted the records of the '94 nominations, but I don't feel like going through the extra effort when the show has been done. As for preferential balloting, I don't think it would work because there is no way to know if everyone has watched every movie. I know that I haven't - I use these as a bed of recommendations.

Shit, can't think of a single time in Oscars history where my #1 has even won 2 years in a row. 🤦♂️ What are your predictions for 1993? Oh, I fully expect my 3-year streak to end, as I don't think I've ever seen a single retroactive poll for 1993 done anywhere where Schindler's List didn't easily walk away with BP and Spielberg with BD. It's my #2 for 1993 and still a bonafide masterpiece, but I'm sad that my #1, Short Cuts (which is also my all-time #20), is so criminally underrated and underseen that I need to have my fingers crossed it even sneaks into our BP line-up. Though with 7 nominees, hopefully it has a better chance.
Also, now that I think of it, the 1997 AMARA winner was L.A. Confidential, which is also my #2 for that year, so my 3-year #1 streak ('96,'95','94) will be bookended by wins for my respective #2's those years. I've yet to ever be 100% satisfied with all of our nominees and eventual winners, but we undeniably have such massively better taste than the Academy did in the 90's. It's not even remotely close! Yay for us!
P.S. : I'll vote this weekend for 1993.
