Pretty shocking that a film directed by and starring Michael Keaton, and also starring Al Pacino, James Marsden and Marcia Gay Harden doesn't have it's own thread here. Reviews were pretty poor on the festival circuit last year (46% on Rotten Tomatoes, 53 on Metacritic) so maybe people just wanted to forget about it.
Anyway, big fan of Keaton (and all the main actors are great/good), so sucks this didn't work out for him critically (critics aren't always right though), but the premise is interesting ( a hitman with dementia) so I might get round to seeing it eventually. Anyway, it's out in cinemas next month.

The MAR GOAT (apparently) has a whole movie out in theatres next month, and no one seems to care . Guess we now know why those Denzel project threads are so busy though.

That's a shame, as I want nothing but the best for Michael Keaton (who feels like he'd also be a stealth choice for an AFI ceremony down the line). I'll still give it a watch, though.

He's the GOAT because he's the best American actor - AND the most awarded across the Triple Crown to ever do it - arguably - along with with Brando, De Niro, Nicholson .......he was never and hasn't been for a long time now the biggest star to ever do it though He just has A LOT of Awards Hardware - see below bitches! My friend the movie critic - saw it and said it's so-so and that Keaton is really good........Pacino has a couple quirky scenes only..... Owen Gleiberman liked it .......there's a review in the Al Pacino News thread btw - recopied here: Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman was a big fan of “Knox Goes Away,” praising it as “a silky and entrancing thriller” and heralding Keaton’s “beautifully psychological performance” along with his directing. Keaton plays John Knox, a hit man whose health is declining even as he is offered a chance to achieve redemption by saving his estranged son’s life.
"American actor Al Pacino (born 1940) completed the triple crown in 2004. He is a 9-time Oscar (1), 3-time Emmy (2), and 3-time Tony (2) nominee, for a total of 15 TC nominations. Pacino has won five awards."

True, I fucks with Keaton as well, and always hope anything he's involved with does well ( not so sure he's a stealth AFI Lifetime Achievement Award candidate though. His stardom feels too spotty and inconsistent for them). Hopefully this film finds a good streaming home soon, because that's where I'll probably watch it. But with this cast and premise, and considering that Al Pacino has some pretty hard-core fans here, I think it could have been promoted here way better than it was. It still feels worth a watch, in spite of the reviews. Especially with that cast.

James Marsden talking about the film on a red carpet interview before it got on the festival circuit. Poor guy....he sounds so excited to be working with Keaton and Pacino. Really like Marsden as an actor as well. He remains underrated.

See, that trailer looks pretty decent. Not sure why the PacinoFam were hiding this film away here by not giving it it's own thread. Sure it could still suck because the reviews aren't the best, but plenty of great movies have had poor initial critical receptions ( The Shining was Razzie nominated, yet is considered a classic now. Man On Fire go hammered by critics, and is considered a classic now etc). I'm holding out hope that this is better than advertised.
Have to say, Keaton and Marsden look particularly good in the trailer.

* No one was hiding this - or any other film - it's discussed here and in this thread on page 6 & 7 with all his movies : movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/post/476432* I wouldn't have made a separate thread for all his movies because I don't think there's an audience for them all - but glad someone who loses a lot to me and is my little fncking bitch did ....... * The Shining shows up on the IMDB Top 250, on the Letterboxd all-time film list, on the TSPDT list, it's #88 on Sight and Sound......unfortunately Man on Fire and Knox Goes Away will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever - EVER - be seen at that level...but yes movies can come back from weak reviews and be appreciated years later.....sure....... but The Shining is a rare beast in that way.......

Yeah, like I said, I barely look at that thread, and I'd guess the same for the majority of the board. So this film felt hidden to me. I dunno. It's just interesting to realise for the last few years that Pacino projects were strategically being cherrypicked to get their own news threads. Always nice to get the fuller, more genuine picture. Man On Fire is already a beloved and hugely popular classic of 20 years standing (I know we're supposed to pretend otherwise, because we can't admit to Denzel having hugely beloved classics, but work with me here ), so Knox Goes Away can't be compared to it on any level. And Michael Keaton is no Tony Scott as a director. It could be easily forgotten one week after it's released in cinemas. That is in fact, the more likely outcome being realistic. It'd be an incredible victory for a film like Knox to go on to achieve the following, longevity, popularity and stature of MOF. That doesn't happen to most films released. I don't think it will for Knox (even if it's better than advertised), but that's the type of optimal outcome you want if a poorly reviewed film like this turns out to be good. If Knox gets the kind of huge disparity between audiences score and critics score that Man On Fire did (see below) that might suggest something

I usually don't use IMDB scores as a reference point, because the system is flawed and proven to have racist voting patterns as a tendency ( So much so they they had to completely revamp the voting system after The Little Mermaid got released). But since you chose to use them, let's do that. Man On Fire has a 7.7 score on IMDB. With 386k votes. That is a higher score than several recent Best Picture Oscar Winners , including Nomadland (7.3 With 180k votes), The Shape Of Water ( 7.3 With 444k votes) , Moonlight (7.4 with 329k votes). It has the same IMDB score as Best Picture Oscar winners Birdman ( 7.7 With 662k votes) and Argo ( 7.7 with 663k votes). So according to IMDB votes ( a metric you just used to highlight The Shining) , a film with a frankly lousy 39% Rotten Tomatoes critics score, ended up with a better or equal IMDB score than several recent Best Picture Oscar winning movies. It also has a better or equal IMDB score to some of this year's Best Picture nominated films, including The Killers Of The Flower Moon (7.7 With 199k votes). Do you realise how popular and beloved a movie has to be for that to even happen? To a movie that was released to frankly shitty reviews? It's incredibly rare. So yeah....It's a beloved classic, by one of the metrics you use when it suits you . And I didn't have to cherrypick a tweet this time

Except just yesterday you said that even if you've blocked someone you can still see their posts if they've been quoted, so make up your mind on how the block function works. You already demonstrated yesterday that you don't have a very good grasp on it.

Well, it's gone up on Rotten Tomatoes. Still rotten, but now 54% with 57 reviews. Gone up by one point on Metacritic (54 with 19 reviews)
No reporting on it's box office since it was released on March 15th.
