Best Leading ActressIsabelle Adjani, Queen Margot Melinda Fiorentino, The Last Seduction Irène Jacob, Three Colors: Red Melanie Lynskey, Heavenly Creatures Natalie Portman, Leon: The Professional Winona Ryder, Little Women Kate Winslet, Heavenly Creatures It's LINDA Fiorentino, 🤷♂️, but still what an EXCELLENT line-up! 😍 My Top 3 (Linda and the HC girls) all made it in, and a total of 4 out of 7. I think Portman is supporting, but if I considered her lead, she 100% would have made my line-up.

My bad.

All in all some fine choices, though I didn't know there was quite so much "Four Weddings" support around here.

I told SZilla that Three Colors: White (my favorite film of the year) underperformed compared to what I hoped for. By "underperformed," I mean that it got completely shut out by all you heathens

Best Leading ActorJohnny Depp, Ed Wood Morgan Freeman, The Shawshank Redemption Hugh Grant, Four Weddings and a Funeral Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump Nigel Hawthorne, The Madness of King George Tim Robbins, The Shawshank Redemption Terence Stamp, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert WTF IS SAM JACKSON IN LEAD?!? Did you knuckleheads really give him more votes for Supporting than Lead?!? Aaaarrrgh!! 🤦♂️🤬🤦♂️ And how can you possibly explain TRAVOLTA not being there?!? Very happy for Johnny and the prison boys (all 3 are in My Top 5), but that line-up stinks to high heaven without Jules and Vincent! Those 2 round up My Top 5, and Jackson's my winner.

Portman is not on the level of the others.

BEST PICTURE OF 1994 Chungking Express Ed Wood Four Weddings and a Funeral Pulp Fiction Quiz Show The Shawshank Redemption Three Colors: Red Haven't seen CHUNGKING EXPRESS, but 4 of the films in that line-up are in My Top 7. Even more impressive, 3 of them are in my all-time Top 100, and 2 of them are actually in my all-time Top 20! So, can't complain too much. 1994 is one of my favorite years for film ever. Just wish NATURAL BORN KILLERS wasn't so criminally underrated and insanely misunderstood. Hopefully I'll live to see it being treated like the epic MASTERPIECE its always been.

Overall decent nominations here, but I could do with a lot less Bullets Over Broadway and a lot more Exotica. Fuck y'all for leaving off Mia Kirshner.

I put him where he was supposed to go. All you damn folks sticking him in support kicked out my by Janusz Gajos. And if Sam Jackson went lead, Raul Julia was ninth place and I know some people who would be mighty happy about that (alas, I didn't get to Street Fighter).

Did a quick overestimation of his screentime right now (rounded up and didn't bother to subtract any reaction shots from Jacob), clocked in at 21 minutes of screentime, about 21.21% of the film.

Quick thoughts: Original Song: 4 of my 5 nominees made the cut, which is great; still, what a shame that The Cure didn't make it for "Burn". I should have placed them at #1. Original Score: the three best scores of the year made it (Forrest Gump, Lion King and Shawshank), that's all I care about Stunt, Fight and Dance Choreography: some fine choices, but I feel there's too much action films in a category whose nominees in past years have been move varied Ensemble Cast: Forrest Gump and Bullets over Broadway robbed; (pleasantly) surprised Four Weddings and a Funeral made it Adapted Screenplay: very pleased Original Screenplay: I'm fine with most of it; The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is the snub that stings the most. I'll always love the BAFTA for having given this film the attention it deserves Supporting Actress: four of my seven made it, so I'm mostly pleased; just want to add that Robin Wright > Sally Field in Forrest Gump Supporting Actor: no Chazz Palminteri is outrageous, but I'm fine with the rest Lead Actress: meh. Replace Portman and Ryder with Lange in Blue Sky and Turner in Serial Mom and that would have been a great lineup. Still, happy for the Heavenly Creatures girls and especially for Fiorentino Lead Actor: haven't seen Hathorne, but I the other six Director: I wish Zemeckis and W. Allen could have made it, but that's my only complaint. Happy for Burton, Ed Wood is one of his best films Picture: I haven't seen Quiz Show or Chungkin Express, and I wanted to see Red before submitting, but was unable to (will do it before voting for the winners); very happy with the other four Thanks for doing this, Martin Stett

Quiz Show, Shawshank and Red are all terrific and I'm not sure which of them I'll vote for. (Still missing Ed Wood so I'll get on that).

Hoop Dreams in for Editing gave my hopes up for a picture nom In a weaker year I'd have voted for it. I'm not sure it even breaks my top ten in '94

Overall I like what's nominated, it's a pretty fantastic year so is not much of a struggle to highlight the good. Although the lack of To Live, Pom Poko, Three Colors White and Exotica (not even best chorepgraphy to Mia!!!) is disappointing.
Lots of love for wedding but not for Collette and Griffiths?
How is Samuel L Jackson supporting while Portman leading?
