Queen Thelma is now the most nominated editor of all time. Got to attend a q&a with her a few months ago, which was awesome.

Hold up. Gangs of New York got 10 nominations and lost all. The Irishman got 10 nominations and lost all. And now Killers of the Flower Moon got 10 nominations... Will the Marty Curse of 10 continue? It's very possible. Only legit shot is Gladstone.

It's very possible, especially as Poor Things has shown no real weakness at this point and that BAFTA miss can't be overlooked, as it shows Gladstone wasn't top three there and they didn't even bother to jury-save her. Gladstone needs SAG to stay alive.

The director's branch really redeemed themselves after the Phillips nom. Respect.

I honestly feel that the French Election Committee did not imagine the power and strength that Anatomy of a Fall was going to have. And after The Taste of Things (the French choice) won Best Director in Cannes. But Anatomy won the Palme... Yes it's true. But Best Director in Cannes is also prestigious.

Mark Ruffalo becomes the actor with the most Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor. Although there are actually 8 actors who share that honor. They are Walter Brennan, Jeff Bridges, Robert Duvall, Arthur Kennedy, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Claude Rains, Mark Ruffalo. All with 4 nominations each for Best Supporting Actor.

Happy for the anguish Sasha Stone is feeling right now with the Sound of Freedom not showing up.

Happy for Bening, who is better, and funnier, as orange sea monster Nyad than Robbie ever was as Barbie. Shame Greta Lee couldn't take cancerous Mulligan out. And lovely to see Hüller there, great actress. Director line-up looks pretty nice, you can trust these guys to do the right thing re: Cooper/Gerwig. The rest is all somewhat dire. No Moore/Cruz, no real surprises anywhere. Guess a lot of people overdosed on DiCaprio this year?

Still can't stop laughing that a movie about the invention of Flamin' Hot Cheetos is an Oscar nominee. I watched the nominations in class (on mute) and nearly screamed at the Diane Warren nomination for Flamin' Hot Cheetos. We should've known...

Diane Warren made a deal with the Devil to get nominated for the most buckwild shit.

Mark Ruffalo's Oscar trajectory has been:
1. His first nomination I don't like 2. His second nomination I really like 3. His third nomination I absolutely DESPISE 4. His fourth nomination I absolutely ADORE
So basically, I'm bracing myself for his fifth nomination which will be a war crime, and then his sixth will be an all-timer.

De Niro officially has the biggest all-time gap between first and last Oscar noms! 49 years from GF: Part II to Killers. Surpassed Kate Hepburn's 48-year record (1933-1981).
And Jodie Foster got pretty close herself! 47 years between Taxi Driver and Nyad...

I'm referring to the subplot that surely got her a nomination... or played a big part of it anyway. I'm aware most people like her work in Maestro - I don't - I was hoping for a Negga-like miracle for Lee but realize it was far-fetched.

Is this real? Apparently this guy is legit. Wtf. I can see it. Some of the scenes between Ernest and the various conspirators do feel very PTA-esque in how conversational they are.

The scenes in prison between DiCaprio and De Niro look a lot like Phoenix and PSH in The Master. Framing-wise, definitely. There are a few evocations to PTA here and there, mainly with There Will Be Blood, but I figured it was due to the same subject matter and production designer.

Is this real? Hmm. An interesting reverse of the Mank situation where Jack Fincher's original script was rewritten by the uncredited Eric Roth, whereas here Eric Roth's script was apparently (if this is true) rewritten by PTA (I suppose this is when they decided to switch the focus of the story from the FBI to Ernest). And in both cases the scripts ended up missing.
