To those calling Gerwig "a lock" and there's no chance for her to miss, do not forget Bradley Cooper for A Star is Born and Ben Affleck for Argo, if you believe it to be so impossible. Villenueve too And Ridley Scott. Lets not forget about Kathryn Bigelow and Ben Affleck.

Weren't people MAD when she wasn't nominated for the equally mediocre, though not as annoying Little Women? The Academy will give into her this time I'm sure. Affleck, Cooper and Dennis V. personally didn't have such "history" (that I know of)... and their movies weren't this big and celebrated (even though one of them went on to win BP). The directors branch has continuously shown they don’t give a shit if people get mad. Ah, hope they make the right choice then

1. There's nothing wrong with a brand trying to realign its place and its meaning in the world, though it's certainly unfair if they do that by spending millions of dollars on a blockbuster movie that will bury any chance of competition being able to organically plug those gaps, but that's the fucking world. 2. Barbie was 'about statements, quotes, constantly taking a stand against something, etc.' out of service to Mattel, and so the Great Gerwig could get her foot in the door of the big time. This guy just makes his brain-thuddingly simplistic sledgehammer-subtle prosaic lecture movies because he chooses to. His way, nobody wins. This MF defending a toy product

Well twitter is mad about everything constantly so that hardly matters. Let's throw in another one though, Cameron for Avatar 2 (who also hit Critics choice and the Globes), a BIGGER hit than Barbie, he didn't make it either. Was anyone actually predicting Cameron though?? Except for probably Havok.

Missing DGA is what stopped most from predicting him.

Yeah, I forget this board ain't great at predictions. movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/thread/23347/directors-guild-award-preview-predictionsAnd proof of that, Cameron got the second most votes pre-DGA stage, but to be kinder to this board, it wasn't just here that people were predicting Cameron.

Barbie will get double digit nominations. I could see a scenario where it even surpasses Oppenheimer.
